ZZ exists too bro. And 78 algs isn't a lot of algs. Most well practiced Fridrich users use more than just the bare minimum of algs.
I know there are systems out there with more than 78 algorithms (Waterman). If you happen to know the bare minimum algorithms for your preferred system cold, and can add a few more special case algorithms to your toolbox, then great.
There are multiple ways to do a 2 look LL. Some theoretical methods will stay that way, simply because there are too many cases to learn (and retain). For example, orient and permute one corner plus its two adjacent edges (143 algorithms), then orient and permute the last 3 corners and 2 edges (too lazy to calculate, but lots). Even if this method happens to save an average of 3 moves for solving the LL, its DOA as a method, strictly because of the number of cases. There is no need to even find the actual average move count, as no one in their right mind would bother to learn this method (unless someone is actually using this as a method, in which case I feel bad for questioning your sanity).
There is a breaking point where the sheer volume of algorithms becomes unacceptable. If this was not the case, everyone would be learning Helmstetter.
