Wide Sledge

I doubt that I am the first one inventing this, but is there such a thing as a wide sledgehammer? I know everyone knows about the basic sledgehammer, but I figured out the wide sledge while messing around with my 3x3. I attached a link to a video that I made, and the first and second examples shows inserting a pair normally and then with a sledge, and the third and fourth examples show inserting a wide pair normally and then a wide sledgehammer. Is the wide sledge a thing and is it used for anything in the cubing community or is this idea just plain absurd?

Outside of algs the application of this saving time or moves is pretty far fetched, I don't see any cases where doing a "Wide Sledge" would save time compared to a regular insert.
