Why gimmicky solve videos are a bad idea...

No I seriously think the forums have degraded in quality since I first got here.

I can see how that can be argued. I just didn't think this particular thread was evidence of that.

I'm totally with OP on this one... I know alot of people in the community don't care and just say "stop caring about it so much" (as implied on this thread), but really I hate how all of a sudden a few days ago everyone (like 6 people in one day!) was like "Wow Dave did you see that guy juggling while solving a Rubix cube????" on so many levels it pissed me off. One of those levels is, as OP said, "but what about the 'art' of cubing?" I realize now that I try that I can't really explain my try feeling/thoughts on this. I guess life goes on tho..... (thx to OP for posting this - I'm glad I'm not the only one )

Yeah and people who solve real fast completely ruin it as well. Everyone should stick to a set speed so that we can all just appreciate the art of the solve as apposed to the gimmick of trying to do it quickly. I also propose we ban Feet, BLD and OH from the WCA also.

Ok, I want to understand and right now I don't. Is it that you're upset with the people who make gimmicky solve videos or the people who think it's the coolest thing or both or which one is more upsetting to you/OP/anyone else who agrees. Is it because for some people, cubing is not just a fun thing to do but more of an "art" that the gimmicky stuff seems to detract from the art itself?

I once knew the only guy in the world who could dunk a basketball and solve a Rubik's cube, he could have filmed a video of him doing both but his Aunty and Uncle got scared and moved him to a town called Bellair.

No but seriously, the people who take videos of themselves are just showing their talents and turning "the art of the solve" to a higher level by doing something else that's also challenging.
