Every event in the WCA can be unforgiving at the highest level, some more than the other.

Out of 5BLD and MBLD, which are the harder BLD events compared to 3BLD and 4BLD,
which one leads to more frustration, missed good official results and plateauing?

My take on this:

For practice, I find MBLD very frustrating. That is because as you get better, it gets noticeably harder. With all the other events, as you get better, the solve gets quicker and it is less exhausting. But with MBLD, it stays at an hour no matter how good you get. So it just gets more and more exhausting.

For competition, sure it is true that 5BLD is more frustrating. It's relatively easy to almost never DNF at MBLD, but it's quite hard to do that with 5BLD. But there's nothing better for me than the feeling of seeing a 5x5x5 solved after a 5BLD attempt, so it's worth it!

I compete at neither of these events at a high level, but I would say MBLD.

Reasons-

Top level 5BLD solves would take less than five minutes(and therefore you can do some solves and stop when necessary), while MBLD takes an hour. I would imagine it is very difficult to fit hour-long multi attempts into your daily schedule.

MBLD requires certain conditions to practice that don't exist for 5BLD. You need over 50 cubes(give or take), you must scramble all of them, and make sure there are no duplicates. In addition, you need the room to be completely silent for an hour. This makes it even harder to practice.

Top level MBLD is much harder than 5BLD, as the top MBLDers would have to memorise about 15 times the information for multi. This causes a lot of strain and it would be hard to do this regularly.

It's true that 5BLD would probably be more frustrating at competition due to triple DNFs, but overall I think multi is more frustrating.

I personally find 5BLD more frustrating than MBLD. With MBLD, you can make a mistake or two and still get a good result. And even if you don't get a good result, it doesn't feel like you wasted that time, because you still got an hour of practice in. With 5BLD, a single mistake makes the attempt feel worthless. But maybe I also have a bit of a bias here, because I don't find 5BLD to be particularly fun to practice anyway.
