Hey guys,

I just received my DIY kits from www.cube4you.com. I was just wondering (from other peoples experience), whether to lube it straight away? Or should I use it in a bit first?

I lubed a cube that i had for about 11 days. I used it a lot those 11 days, but i found that lubing it made it turn in a "sticky" fashion. It actually would have to be turned hard to turn fast, if you turned it slow at all, it would keep sticking. I would wait until the cube is a little older. I am new to cubing, so this is just from my personal experience with one lubed early cube. Maybe others with more experience will have a more accurate opinion.

edited to add: I used Silicone spray made for plastic from lowes hardware.

Yea, i had used mine for probably ten solves or so before i lubed my DIY, after you lube it it definitly has a different feel, in my experience not really sticky, but just an uncomfortable feeling, but then if you cube for like 10-30 min that feeling goes away and it's just an excellent cube.

i lubed my rubik's diy cube right away and the one from cube4you after two weeks. i heard that if you dont shake your spray before applying it then the cube gets sticky. i let them "rest" for a week and then its fine. but usually it works right away.

I think it depends on what your personal preference is. Some people will tell you that the longer you wait before lubing your cube, the better it will be. Some guys will tell you to make your cube as tight as possible and then just play with it for a few weeks, then lube it. Any way is fine, however in my experience, I have found no difference whether you lube it right away or wait a while to lube. Usually what I do is put the cube together just so that it holds itself together without popping. I'll twist it like that for a few minutes maybe, but it's not even necessary to do that. Then I'll lube all the pieces, let it dry for about 10 minutes, then put it back together. Now I tighten the cube until I'm satisfied with how it feels. Also, I have had the sticky feeling with certain brands of lubricant. I highly recommend using CRC Heavy Duty Silicone. Your cube won't feel sticky, it lasts for a long time, and it is by far the best brand of lubricant I have found to use.

I agree with apoplectic. All silicon spray I have used does work great on the cube, but:

1) If you use to much, it takes longer to dry and it will be sticky for a longer time.
2) Some sprays make your cube turn faster immediately (Dan Harris uses something he calls "the ****" which is just perfect), others take a couple of days to reach the same effect.

i use crc silicone lube.got it at walmart for $1.17.i usually just spray some on a paper towel and rub it on each cubie(make sure that you get into every knook and cranny, and even on the corners).thats the best method ive found, and it drys in less than 1/2 a minute!and in my opinion works better than just the spray on method. ;)
