When to discard 4LLL

Hello all,

I am relatively new to this still, averaging around 60 seconds with Fridrich F2L, 2 look OLL and 2 look PLL. How fast should I be (around) before learning the full OLL/PLL sets? (well, learning PLLs first I'd assume)

Theres no specific time frame that should be before moving on to anything. Are you comfortable with the algorithms you already know? I always regretted not learning last layer algorithms sooner, but just go at your own pace and move on when you're ready and want to learn more. And yes, learn PLL's first. Full OLL is only going to shave off a couple seconds from 2-look.

Never should have learned it anyway. I just went straight to 2 look OLL and PLL.
Not that hard to learn.

So you learned 31 algorithms before you ever solved the cube? Seriously? I kinda doubt it. You must have done something in between. Like an 8LLL which leads you to a 7LLL, which .... down to a 4LLL and finally a 3LLL.

Brian.

I use 4LLL... I have kind of hit a dry spell and haven't been practicing much, so my average is about 50 seconds. A few months ago, however, I was getting 40 second averages with 4 Look. I'm not sure what the 4LLL potential is, but you could actually get it much faster. That is not to say that you shouldn't go ahead and start learning the rest of your pll's though.

Just learn 1 or 2 at a time, and move onto the next one when you are comfortable with using all the PLL's you know in solves.

good plan, thanks for the advice. I think I will just keep working with what I have now and nailing the finger movements down to an art first. Also I can never get enough practice with F2L =/

Just keep practicing with your 4LLL until your times don't tend to drop too much. This will likely be in the 40's, and if so, work on F2L especially and your times with be dropping again. Around this time, just learn a new PLL every now and then (one or even two a day if you have the time to be this consistent), and once you've learned them and can recognize them easily, practice. Practice. Practice. Start learn more OLLs (I'd recommend starting with 'dot' OLL's, which would otherwise cause 3-Look OLL).

Learn more and more OLLs over time by then, and practice. Practice. Pra-you get the idea. ;)

Honestly, I learnt them straight after learning to do F2l. and I knew intuitive f2l+ 3 look LL and with these I was averaging about 1:15minutes. yeah I learnt the algs a bit fast but I got comfy with them you see XD. And I have a thing for learning algs.. I think it's an obsession. Now I've finished OLLs and prolly learning COLLS sometime later for fun.

I think I stand for everything people hate in cubers (in a memorise a lot of algs kind of way) :p
