Ive been cubing for about 2 months now and i average about :57 with a best of :52 and i have the fridrich method down and i memorized how to do like most of the PLL and barely even started OLL and idk what to do. Should i learn a better method because i think im very slow and i need some improvement.

i have like 2 rubiks brands very nice, a Type C DIY, and will be getting another Type C DIY

Well you should be much more descriptive.

On average how long does the cross take you?

How about F2L?

OLL?

PLL?

Do you do intuitive F2L or do you use algorithms?

Something like that.

Or, just make a video of your solves and we can tell you what to do.

Don't worry, I'm not going to be like most people and just say practice.

Overall, you need to learn fingertricks, even just for the U and D layers. When it looks like you are doing U fingertricks, it seems like you are doing them with your thumb. That should be done with your index finger, as if you were shooting a gun. Look it up on youtube if you don't know what I mean.

Cross: It looks like you need to try and find the 8-9 move cross, and execute it fast. Take more time on inspection, and take a look at badmephisot's cross video.

OLL: Learn 2 look OLL. It only took me 2-3 days to memorize, and learning that on top of fingertricks should lower your OLL time significantly.

PLL: If you know almost all of them, it means you need to learn how to execute them faster. Again, fingerticks will drastically lower your time here.

so 2 look OLL is just memorizing the basic formations of the OLL and their solve to the PLL?

I think I understand what you are saying, but to make it clear, the 1st look of OLL is to orient the LL cross, which only takes 1 alg if two LL edges are already oriented, and 2 if none are.

Note: to orient the LL cross if none are already oriented, it just means you do one of the algs twice.

The last 7 (I think 7) algs are to orient the LL corners without disturbing the orientation of the already correct LL edges. Then, you just do PLL.

It takes time for one to reach their goals, everyone is different, you will get there use the techniques above and jsut practice them

For the cross, basically, although it is cliche, practice, that's the only way to improve the cross I think, try making your f2l more fluid with few pauses and learn fingertricks for the algs, for oll, for now you should do FURU'R'F' or FRUR'U'F' to orient the edges on the last layer, and as jcuber said, learn the 7 algs, very easy to learn, to orient the corners from there, for pll, make sure you are using either jason baum's or bob burton's plls, jmbaum.110mb.com, or cubewhiz.com, and watch videos of how these are performed and practice with fingertricks, thats about all.

Theres my best solve on camera

Cross maybe about 5 secs
F2L idk maybe sometimes 25-30 seconds including cross
OLL depends but can be anywhere between 5-15 seconds
PLL probably about 10 seconds
It's really hard to see what you're doing because all I see is your hand.

Yeah, get better at finger tricks. You use your entire hand to turn a face a lot, and that is slow. For the U face, for both hands, you want to turn it using a flick of your index finger.

Cross: 5 seconds for your cross is pretty good for your speed, but is that average?

F2L: I don't know what to tell you because I can barely see what you're doing in your F2L, but you're using Fridrich F2L right? When you insert a corner edge pair at the same time right?

OLL: 5-15 seconds for OLL is really slow. Badmephisto has a good video tutorial on how to do two look OLL.

PLL: You know most of PLL and you're at 10 seconds? LOL. (No offense). It's obvious you need to get better fingertricks to execute the PLLs faster. How do you think the top cubers average under 2 second for each PLL?

im using F2L Fridrich i think, one alg is U R U Ri Ui Fi Ui F. and i took rough estimates for the times i said, idk my actual times but i do the cube in about a minute every time so i must do somethings faster than others but idk what im the slowest at

2 months is not a long enough time to get frustrated over times like these. I didnt start breaking 1 minute for like 8 years. Even though I wasnt really going for speed or practicing very much, its still a long time.

For algorithms, finish your PLLs and learn the 7 corner orientation algs like jcube said. But I'll also say that you need to work on how you move the cube. Any large/dramatic movements with your right hand is generally not a good thing, and I'm seeing a lot of that. Your right thumb doesnt really need to come off of the cube very much, especially during F2l. Practice doing U turns exclusively with your right index, and U' with your left index. Practice stuff like (R U R' U) or (U R U' R') over and over while moving your hands as little as possible. There are other things of course, but thats all Im really going to say for now. Fast times come with time and effort. Practice and watch how other people move the cube and I promise your times will drop significantly

That algorithm is for the layer by layer method (LBL) F2L. You should explain how you do your F2L, because it doesn't seem like you know what Fridrich F2L is.

LBL F2L is when you make the cross, solve the first layer, and then solve the second layer.

Fridrich F2L is when you make the cross, and then fill in the 4 slots by pairing up a corner and an edge, and then inserting them into the slots.

Yeah, I agree.

I started cubing on January 6, 2008. I didn't get my first average of 12 below one minute until April 2, 2008. During sometime in mid January I lost my cube, but I bought a new one and started cubing again on February 17, 2008. Still, even with that, that is more than 2 months.

thanks everyone for the help and ill try all your suggestions

i do the cross then the first layer then i do the second layer piece by piece using the 2 algs so i guess im using the LBL method =/ shows how much i kno

if you can have a 52 second PB single after 2 months of doing LBL with no keyhole, then you're in good shape. I thought you were doing full F2L (even that would have been fine though). Now you need to go learn F2L

yeah im such a noob i dont even know what method im using ;) but i want to learn a very fast one and learn the best algs and all that cause i wanna be a pokemon master lol omg just had to say it

Ok well it seems to me like you need to re learn your f2l algs
and maybe try to find 2 gen olls and plls,
quit frankly your times are good for 2 months.
i had 50 sec average after 6 months after starting
now i average about 22 maybe sub 20 on a good day
best time is 15.68 which is amazing for me and thats with a rubiks brand cube
i have 2 dianshengs which you should buy

send questions if you need anything
