Could you post a video of a few solves? There should definitely be things to work on at 40 seconds, but it's hard to say what they are unless we see some solves.

Best advice I've seen thus far is doing non-timed solves. Efficiency goes a long way my friend.

What alg would anyone have taught you besides R U R' U' R U2 R'?? Please tell me you actually mean you learned a new fingering/rotation that is faster.

Apologies, you are correct. I meant to say I learnt a new way to fingertrick sune/amti-sune.

The point still stands about learning better algs though.

Saying that slow practising F2L is where you can usually make big gains when you are relatively slow.
