Some weeks ago, I Learnt the CLL, and I have a question:

What is better; be neutral color, or start always with the same colours?

Arguments for neutral color:
Being neutral color, you can do the first layer easily
Usually with practise, less than 6 moves

Arguments against neutral color:
The recognition of the CLL case, is more dificult than starting always with the same colours

Arguments for Start with same colours:
You have an easily recognition of the cases

Arguments against start with same colours:
Do the first layer sometimes will take more time

so... What is your opinion? What is best?

Almost all fast 2x2 solvers who use CLL are color neutral. In my opinion, it's really silly to restrict yourself to just one or two colors to make the FL. That means you'll miss out on many opportunities at an easy layer and being able to predict CLL during inspection. You'll also get bad layers considerably more often.

However, I discussed this with Edouard Chambon at the WC and he completely disagreed. ;)
Edouard said that there's almost always a decently fast way to make a layer as long as you're at least opposite color neutral. He also argued that recognition is much easier/faster.

I think too, that it's easier to recognise making always the same oposite colours (in my case, White or Yellow), at least it's what I think Now.
Probably I'll need to practise a lot to get a better recognition, and maybe when I'll get it, being neutral colour would be easier

Thank's!!!

I average about 4s now with CLL, and I'm not completely color neutral. I try to find good white/yellow faces first before finding those of other colors. If that happens, I find myself reminding myself what the opposite color is...though sometimes I do forget to do so. Sometimes I have to do 3 LLLs =P

Well, I'm not an expert on CLL, but I have learned a couple of the sub-sets. From my short experience, I've noticed it takes a tiny bit longer to recognize a case when white/yellow is not my FL. I think I can contribute this to inexperience.

Not to mention, if you've got an easy FL where, for example, a 2x1 block is already made, it seems to really help me to be able to use that block even if it isn't my typical FL colours.

To respond to all three of you: I suggest switching to complete color neutrality right away and I recommend that everyone starting to learn CLL begins being color neutral right from the start. Just learn to recognize cases based on where opposite/adjacent/same colors are (you can learn that in Rowe's videos on YouTube). I was color neutral from the start and after a little practice it becomes second-nature. I think it helps a lot in the long run.
