What is a Pseudo Block?

for example, if you did step 1 in petrus normally then in step 2 you saw a nice opporitunity to build the wrong 2x2x1 block in few moves and put it at the end of your 2x2x2 for later use, then that block would be a pseudo block.

Well it looks like there is a pseudo block built on the bottom of the right face. So I guess the plan in that solve was to solve the unsolved (top)layer so the last turn of the solve could be/be canceled with L'. The pseudo LL is a V-perm and two corners that need to be oriented.

edit: but I could be completely wrong...

btw, I am asking about this stuff because I saw this on the yahoo forum

scramble:

> > ZBLL: z' U L' U' L R U2 L' U L U L' U R' (L-L') (how do you do zbll when there is a non-matching block in the U layer??)

oh wow....it looks like i was right after all

you do realize this is all FMC stuff right?

Do L on a solved cube, look at the top layer, that is the "goal" of the LL in the solve you posted. So now, the last move could be L' or be canceled with L', as was the case here. If you scramble another cube with the sequence you first posted and compare it to the cube you just did L on, you will see that if you wanted to make the top layers look the same you would have to swap UBL and UFR corners and UF and UL edges, also the UFL and UBL corners need to be rotated clockwise and counterclockwise respectively. There is a ZB case for this...it is (U L' U' L R U2 L' U L U L' U R' L). I hope this answers your question.

Yeah, of course nobody uses pseudo-blocks or ZBLL in speedsolving. They would lose recognition time!

I really hope I don't have to add caveats for ever exception just to avoid the sarcasm. I know you know this ZB case because it has a 2x2x1, I know you pseudo block in your speed solves on occasion, prefer not to, and sometimes can't help yourself, I know.

Hey Johannes, wasn't it you who did that solve a while back on the yahoo forums??
Yes.

It's just that this was about a speedsolve, so it sounded weird that you said that.
