Heh, just found this quite peculiar so thought I'd post. Yesterday, my average OH was about 1:03.xx or something, with a PB single of 48 seconds, and recently I've been OH cubing quite often so it's not like I've only taken one average or anything like that. Anyway, today, I decided to do an OH average, and the 3/5 avg of the first 5 solves of the day was 45.07, beating my PB single by a few seconds, and average by more than 10! Decided to continue it to an avg 10/12 and got 50.67. I can now consistently solve sub 55 seconds on most solves :P Anything like this happened to anyone else?

P.S. Is it usual for beginner OH solver's F2L to take about the same time as their LL? I'm soo slow at execution, but pretty good at look-ahead and optimal F2L cases, so my F2L takes around 25 seconds, and so does my LL :P Wondering if it's worth learning new algorithms especially for OH, but this might be quite difficult bearing in mind I've only just learnt all 21 PLLs :P

I did an avg of five OH solves a couple days ago where I had a good 15 second improvement in avg (from 1:30 to 1:16) and a 20 second improvement in personal best with my first sub minute solve (from 1:17 to :58). But I did those standing while all my other timed solved I had done sitting. my F2L takes roughly half the solve as well, but I still use a 4LLL. (sorta, with the petrus, method I consider the edge orientation done just before completing F2L to be my "first look").

Chukk: Yes, LL should take about the same amount of time as the F2L, but preferably you would want it to take slightly less time (maybe, 9 seconds F2L, 7 seconds LL is an "optimal standard" to aim for).

This just happened to me too. I have been improving in spurts sort of for a while, I think. All of a sudden last night, I got a 26.33 avg of 12... my former best average was 28.1 or so, and a rolling average in the middle of a string of 50. Odd how it happens.

I don't entirely agree that F2L should take the same ammount of time as LL, although perhaps for a beginner it might. It probably depends on the number of algorithms you use... are you using 2 look LL? With only 2 (albeit somewhat longer) LL algorithms to do, it shouldn't take as long as 4 pair algorithms + cross + more recognition lag. 25s F2L for a friend of mine meant ~40s solves for him. I guess, work on PLLs... get finger tricks down for the awkward PLL's, and hopefully that will help.

for me its like F2L 11 and then LL like 8 plus or minus a second or two somewhere. LL should definitely be slightly less.
I guess my PB went from like 19.6x to 18.81 overnight kinda a big jump for me.

My LL is like 10 secs, lol. F2l sub 15, sometimes way sub 15.

I just had the same kind of thing happen to me. I had never broken 30 seconds before back when I practiced one hand, which was a year ago. At nationals I got times in the low 40s. But using one of my looser cubes today, I got a 28.74 average of 12. Maybe one lucky solve. It was amazing. And now I'm just solving in awe of myself. I'm afraid I'm going to wake up one day and be back in the 40 second range again.

It seems like after i practice OH a lot over a couple days and wear my hand out, i do horribly for a little while - then after my hand has rested overnight it jumps back to being strong and i get good times. Really, i don't think overnight improvements are all that weird, i actually think they're kind of normal if you practice regularly. However it does seem weird, especially after i haven't practiced OH in a while, when all of a sudden my times decrease. Before US Nationals I was averaging high 20's (28-29) and then all of a sudden afterwards I was hitting low to mid 20's on a regular basis, and now my best avg of 3/5 is 21.86. Pretty crazy improvement for me. I think the improvement just seems to happen at a faster pace because really bad times occur when the hand is really tired, and after a short period, when the hand is well rested, really good times can occur.

Well,I had times of 79s and 88s in a competition.(usually solved around 70-80s). But the very next day, while travelling I did 4 solves (one lucky) of below 60s. These solves did not feel particularly fast and I had made a lot of mistakes.(so was expecting above 80 s for those solves).I had not cubed much the previous week.(10-12 solves total).
So,seemed like a pretty good improvement though percentage wise,it isn't much.

This happened to me, but it isn't weird.
The day before Drexel, I OH cubed like crazy, must have solved at least 200. I was at around 37-43 average a few months before it, but I haven't really practiced for a long time. I started the day with solves around 50, then it became around 40 like before. After a while, my hands got tired and it went back up to 45. Then, my hands could no longer feel the pain. Times kept on decreasing until I got a 33 second average. Then, I felt confident about the competition next day and went to sleep. At the competition, I got a 35 average.
I guess it's more of an over day improvement that was caused by lots of practice, but it is a big improvement in a short time! :D
