Someone popped my type A cube today during a cube demo and so I lost one of my corner pieces. So I had a cube without a corner piece. I first tried fitting type D corners in (all the corners, not just the lost one), didn't turn out very well, because the type D corners were slightly larger, so the cube felt very uneven.

Then I tried fitting Japanese speedcubing kit corners into my type A, and it's turning miraculously well. It's cutting corners like a type A should (better, perhaps?), and pops much less than a pure type A, and the best part is, I tried a PLL time attack on it and instantly did a sub-50 on my first try, zero lockups and obviously zero pops as well. And I'm not even consistently sub-55 yet, only done 4 sub-50s in my life, and that includes this one. So I've got a feeling this is gonna be my main speedcube once I change the stickers :) (because my type A has tiles on them while the Japanese corners have normal stickers, so recognition is a bit tricky because of the different shades of colors.)

Can anyone try this out too and tell me if they're getting the same results? Corners from Japanese speedcubing kit, and every other part of the cube from type A.

Perhaps its just the A core? Somebody suggested changing out the JSK core for an A core. I tried your combination and it does feel a little more accurate than a standard type A.

That's what I did to one of my type A back in winter. I took the corner store cubies and replaced them on type A corner cubies, and it felt pretty good. I don't know why it's getting worse though. It doesn't quite work with store edges and type A corners though.

most of my cubes seem to be combos now. i have
a Rubik's storecube with type b pieces, which is one of my favorites
a type d with rubik's diy cube peices
a type a with rubik's storecube pieces [from the fist combo^] haha
and a bag full of unused pieces and cores because no matter how i use them, they suck.
but none of my combo cubes have a mixture of corners and edges from different types... hmm..
