WCA and Competitions

Hi. I have been speedsolving for about 10 months now and just recently competed in my first competition, the New Zealand Champs 2010!

I have two questions about the WCA and competitions.

I was curious to know about the scrambles in competitions, is everyone given the same scramble for their first solve and so on etc or are they all randomly assigned from a pool of possibilities?

Also I saw Dene and Feliks solve a Helicube (which looked pretty bad ass ) and was wondering why their times wern't official? Is this because it is a new puzzle and there are procedures needed to make it an offical event

Yeah, everyone is given the same scrambles, or in a larger competition, the competitors are divided into group that get the same scrambles.

It's not an official event and they were just doing it for fun or PRIDE IN STRAIGHTBACK or something

Whether it's new or not, it also needs sufficient interest (in speedsolving it) from people to become an official event.

It's not an official event and they were just doing it for fun or PRIDE IN STRAIGHTBACK or something
