Regular
G'Day.
My name is TOAST and I'm a BLD-a-holic
Cubing history. I've been cubing for 25 years (since primary school). Until ~3 months ago, my method was:
Cross,
First Layer Corners,
2nd layer,
Orient edges,
Permute edges using *only* the Sune algorithm (not even anti-sune)
Permute corners using *only* the Bowtie OLL algorithm (the one that starts R L' U...)
Orient corners using F D F' D' / D F D' F'
Average time ~2-3 minutes
Learnt about Frichrich like 10 years ago and thought "78 algorithms, that's freaking impossible".
Changed my mind after seeing a bunch of impressive stuff by Faz on youtube. I now average ~40-50 seconds, and have completed my first successful BLD.
Right now:
- I'm only practicing BLD. In fact, the only solves I do are to fix a cube that I've failed a BLD on. It is quite possible that at some point my BLD PB will beat my Non-BLD PB.
- PB - 38.55 - Lucky PLL skip.
- Best average of 10 - ~48 seconds (it's been a while though since I've done one)
- 2-look OLL, Learning PLLs, but when going for speed, I seem to always do a T-Perm and a U perm for anything I don't know.
- PB BLD - 8:34.54
- PB Megaminx ~9:40 (How the bloody hell does anyone do this fast? Takes all day finding the damn stickers).
Cubes: I've bought and tried a lot of them, they're cheap.
Favourite cube - Haiyan Memory
2nd favourite - A Guhong so loose that it loudly rattles when you shake it. It *NEVERRRRR* *EVERRRR* pops. Never locks either, but I over-shoot a lot because it's so crazy loose. Might make an awesome one-hand cube. Don't know how I did it. Bought another Guhong and can't seem to replicate the effect.
3rd Favourite - an F2 I used to love, but I messed with the tension a lot and I think I over-lubed it and now it pops all the time.
Ambition: I'd like to have a sub-20 average, and get my BLD single under a minute (with big accuracy). My big ambition though is MULTI-BLD, and I'd like to try a few epic attempts. I'm also intrested in crazy stuff like solving a cube between sets of lifting weights (like chessboxing), or solving one-handed with your other hand submerged in ice water.
Outside of cubing: I work a sensible IT job at a big corporate during the day. In my spare time I write plays, movies and sitcoms, I'm also doing a Masters Degree. I'm 34. Live on my own in the middle of Sydney. Don't have a girlfriend, had them before, not really looking for one now, but I go out on dates. I drink alcohol and like Cantonese BBQ meats and Korean food.
Hope to meet a bunch of you at the next Australian championships or any meet happening in Sydney.
