I have not found a thread on this yet (but there might be one, but I'm not going to dig around for an hour).

I'm trying really hard to get sub 10 min times on the V7. I think the centers are holding me up. Currently, I build 1x5 blocks for each center (minus the last two of course) Should I change this to build a 3x3 block and expand with 1x3's? Would that speed it up? I have tried this already a couple times and it was a pain in the a**. Maybe I should just stick with it and develop on it, or just stick will what I have? What do you guys think?
I bought this cube two months ago, too. So, maybe I'm biting off more than I can chew.... Thanks a bunch :)

I do 1x5 blocks as well, so that shouldn't be the problem. For the last two centers I basically do this;

For edges, I use freeslice(the method under 'advanced' 5x5 edge pairing on bigcubes.com).

Other than that, just practice, experiment with different methods to see which are better for you, and uh, practice. You'll get better eventually :).

I was thinking about doing this way for the last two. Right now I built two 3x3 for each of the last center...then pretty commutator ( I think that is what it is..) the hell out of the out center pieces, some times it takes a while sometimes not. Depends on how many i need to do. Thanks though. what is your time on the V7? Is it sub 10 at least...that way I know there hope for me using the 1x5 method.

I am around 5 minutes. I don't practice at all so I could probably be sub-5 pretty easily if I practiced more.

Wow, how long have you been cubing?
How is my progress thus far? I'll quit bugging you after this post :)

I've been cubing somewhere between 2.5 and 3 years(I have lost track of the date :/). Don't think of me as very good though, as there are much better big cubers than me :).

As for your progress; based on your times in your signature, they're pretty consistent with your 7x7 times. I would say you should just practice, practice, practice.

that alg (in the video) is like one of the algs that I use, except backwards.
I'm still around 15 minutes, probably because I keep going really slowly, I should use EP by going wing, then oblique. I havn't tried it, but it might be a good idea...

As funny and weird as this sounds, that video actually helped develop an epiphany to solve the centers faster in general. Ex: the "M Perm" he showed on there. That didn't even occur to me until just now. Thanks again. Much appreciated. :):D

Well, just so you know, the video was made by Dan Cohen. If you want to see where he is ranked in the world, look him up.

BTW I also use this method. If you want to see where I stand in the world rankings then look me up.

NICE!! i know I'm at a good place on this forum if I have a any questions at all.

I watch your 5x5 walk through on youtube. I feel much better about my method of solving. If that is how you actually solve it. Then I solve pretty much just like that, but....slower, lol but speed comes naturally with practice.
Thank you very much :D
