cubegeek... I hate to break this to you, but we've already had plenty of newcomers come in here and try to start new forums and websites in attempt to make theirs the big ones. Host the competition, but leave the rest as it is. cube911.com - don't push it. Don't give Texas a bad name.

I don't understand why you aren't attempting to make this official.
If it is official you will get far more people, and advertising it is so much easier.

He was attempting to make it official. The problem is he doesn't have enough experience to make that happen. He hasn't even been to an official competition before.

Doug, Sapan and I have though Shelley, and we should all be there. I imagine we'll end up running most of it, but it's good that the Houston club is organizing it - we've been toying with the idea of having a competition for a while now, but haven't pulled it together in organization yet. I'm curious though, Shelley, if Doug Reed can make this official? He's a WCA member, but not a delegate, as far as I'm aware.

Contact the WCA directly. Given the lack of organization and experience Cubegeek has displayed in his posts so far I don't think they'd let him make his competition official by himself, but if you guys are running it they'll be more likely to give it the okay.

Look at Tyson's message and read what he said about the Utah event. Someone e-mailed him, they talked about what it would take to hold an event, that person went to Santa Ana to gain some experience and now they're having an event in Utah. Tyson even recommended that Cubegeek talk to Doug Reed. Cubegeek then goes and responds randomly to someone named Doug in the Yahoo group trying to find Doug Reed. Cubegeek also ignores all the advice given here multiple times (Cubegeek, do you even have Stackmat timers?) He's also posted in the WCA forum multiple times and didn't really listen to advice there either.

Bryan, I contacted Doug Reed and he said hold an unoffical comp.

I am going to rent the Comp. equipment , ( Stackmats)

I am trying my best to use the advice given by all on this forum.

Now according to your advice, ( As I understand , I need people to judge and competitors.)

Excuse me , Shelley and Alex.

"Lack of organization" - Yea Yea I am doing this for the first time as you said, so I am new to organizing comps. ( No duh)

I contacted Doug Reed , he said unofficial first and then official. He isn't availabe for June 14th anyway

Speaking as someone who has both hosted and competed, I STRONGLY recommend doing whatever it takes to make this competition official, even if that means compromising on dates.

I would really like to make this comp. Official , but the WCA board wants an unofficial comp. first and then an official one. ( When you hosted your first comp. , you made it official ?)

Yes, and while I hosted with Tim Reynolds, many people who host haven't hosted an unofficial competition before have hosted. It is strongly recommended that you attend a competition before hosting.

So you hosted an unofficial comp. ?

How did you advertise and get support for your comp. ?

Yeah, Sadly , I have never been to a competition before.

No, It was official. Sorry for the wording of my post, It was a bit confusing.
Sponsors: Venue costs were covered by the registration fee. By having all extra money go to charity, a few nicely worded letters got starbucks and a few local places to donate a ton of food and drinks. Stackmats and displays were brought by Bob Burton
