Hey guys. My name is Jordan. I am not "new" to the forums. But I have some questions.
So I have been cubing since January. Finally got my time down to 15 sec as of yesterday, I got like 4-5 or them in my ao5. but my times are very unconsitent. sometimes I avg low 30's or mid 20's. while others are sub 20's. it's making me frusterated. I just got done with 1look pll. I time my f2ls and ll separate. and I avg 5 sec for those. and for f2l I avg around 18 sec. So my f2l isn't as good as it could be. Here's the thing, I had it down to 10 sec, then moved on to 1look pll cause I was sick of not being able to do all the cases( probably a lot of you understand this) so my f2l has gotten worse. But I have tried bld solving the cross and then bld solving on pair, then two pairs. I have worked with a metronome for about a month. But I'm not seeing substantial times. any tips or ways to start seeing REAL progress in f2l not just good and then bad then good then bad.

sorry for the longness. But I am looking for someone to reply straight to me which is why I made a thread. Otherwise just pm me and we can keep up on eachothers progress. or add me...

For future reference: inconsistent.

Personally, I think consistency is overrated. If you want to get faster you don't want to be consistently averaging 22 seconds. You want to average 22, with the occasional 21 average. Don't worry about it, just keep going.

+1 =)

just practise or may be try to watch some videos on youtube about how to solve the rubik's cube faster!

Inconsistency is mostly caused by bad look ahead and going too fast (at least with CFOP). The reason you get sometimes good times is that you are just lucky to see the next pair fast, but most of the time you go so fast during F2L that you don't see your next pair beforehand. At least this is my own experience as I'm also quite inconsistent.

I agree with Dene though that consistency is overrated, you should be happy that you have room to improve. :)

It may also be because there are specific cases that are taking you much too long to solve. Try doing a bunch of untimed solves, and stop when you come across an F2L case that you are slow to solve. There are many cases where intuitive F2L is quite slow and learning an algorithm is better.

But don't think of it as memorizing an algorithm. Understand how it is affecting the F2L and it will be WAY easier to remember, because you won't be memorizing individual moves.

Get a nicer cube. A locky cube makes my times go all over the place.

Note, this is the only time I will ever recommend a better cube as a solution.

the cube isn't the problem. I use FII's and Ghosthands. which I like.

haha I wonder why unconsistent looked weird. lol.

overrated how?

at first I DID only memorize algs. before I saw vids that said solve intuitively. then I stopped working with algs and moved to intuitive. I guess I'll just keep practicing. thanks.
