Round 3
The time has come to reveal the next phase of our competition!
IMPORTANT: READ CAREFULLY. THIS IS A COMPLICATED ROUND WITH MANY DETAILS. I have provided many details to avoid confusion in as many areas as possible, but please feel free to still ask for any clarification.
For this round, you will attempt to complete an Ao5 which matches the standards listed below as CLOSELY as possible. That includes going over AND going under. Every event has an assigned average to meet, but you will have some say in what event you compete in.
I have used a randomizer to select three event options for each of you based upon the events you're able to do. By this, I mean that I put all WCA events into a list randomizer, made nine random lists, then selected the first three events which each of you are able to do. You may pick any one of those three that you wish to do for this round. You can either post your chosen event on this thread or in a DM, whatever you prefer. There is no advantage nor disadvantage to making that public or not. You will be provided scrambles by me after event selection.
Now you may be thinking "But
@Clock_Enthusiast, how on Earth are the time standards selected? Are they arbitrarily determined by yourself or pulled from a hat?"
The answer is
shr
im
ple; TWICE AND ONE HALF TIMES (2.5x) that of every winning average at the Rubik's WCA World Championship 2023. I initially was going to do 2x, but most of those were still a bit unrealistic for the nature of this round.
2x2: 3.35
3x3: 13.27
4x4: 55.27
5x5: 1:40.27
6x6: 3:08.45
7x7: 4:26.87
3x3 OH: 23.55
Pyraminx: 4.70
Skewb: 5.80
Megaminx: 1:13.12
Square-1: 13.50
Clock: 9.37
3BLD: 36.37 or 34.95 single (if no Mo3)
4x4 BLD: N/A
5x5BLD: N/A
FMC: 55.82 Mo3 (you are expected to get a Mo3 if FMC is somehow in your 3 event options AND selected. I doubt anyone will end up doing FMC, but who knows).
6x6, 7x7, and FMC will use the Mo3 format
3BLD will use Mo3 format or Bo3 depending on if one successfully completes a mean.
Advantage for Top 5 from Round Two
You all get a 0.25 second buffer, meaning that you can add or subtract 0.25 to/from your final Ao5! This is around the average human reaction time, and while it may seem like very little time, it could correct some simple issues you're bound to encounter during this challenge, especially if you anticipate finishing before the Ao5 standards. The selected event will also come into play a lot with this advantage, but under any circumstance, it will at least help you to some extent.
If your average is within 0.25 seconds of the set standard, the 0.25 will be added or subtracted in a manner that benefits you the most. For example, if the standard clock average was 1.50 seconds, and you had a 1.72 second Ao5, I would subtract 0.25 to put your final score/"average" at 1.47, therefore making you 0.03 off rather than 0.22. If there is somehow a situation where you're WITHIN 0.12(5) seconds of the standard average (and therefore, adding or subtracting 0.25 would be redundant or negatively affect you), you will be awarded a perfect score.
