So a few days ago I realized that I really need to learn some more algs. And I hate learning algs. But I realized, if you learned an alg a day, you could finish ZBLL in about a year and a half. So, how about we all try to learn more algs by just learning a single one each day?
For beginners, you could learn full OLL in less than 2 months if you try learning one a day. For advanced users, you could learn VLS in less than a year if you learn one a day. So it's really a great way to learn algs, and the key to being good at it is consistency. So try to do it every day!
So here's the way this will work.
Basically there will be 3 categories for alg learning, which will be separated by practicality and skill level.
Level 1: Basic algs that would be geared towards people who are just starting to get more in depth with algs in CFOP. Algs would include things like PLLs, OLLs (maybe including OCLLs as well) or possibly F2L algs.
Level 2: Algs that start to ramp up in skill level, but are still useful and practical. Algs would include things like COLL, WV, ELL, VHLS, CPEOLL.
Level 3: These algs are for more advanced users, and they aren't often that practical, but they are often very high-powered. These will include ZBLLs, 1LLL cases (easy ones of course) OLLCP, 2GLL, and OLS.
I will list 2 algs for each case, every day when I get home from school. Usually this will be around 3pm EST. These 2 algs will have a brief description and sometimes they will be mirrors/inverses of each other. You can choose to learn both, or you can pick the one you like the best, or if you've learned one already you can pick the other. If you've learned both algs in the category you usually pick from, choose another! If you've learned all the algs I have listed already, go on the wiki and find one you haven't!
I do know that people have done this in the past, but it hasn't been very successful to my knowledge. I think that putting 6 different algs up will help with the varied range of alg knowledge out there.
if this sound like a good idea to you guys, let me know! I know that it's past the time I would normally put algs up, but I'll put just the level 1 algs up to give you guys an idea of what it's going to be like.
Level 1:
This case is called the Y perm. It is a diagonal corner swap PLL, and it is one of the longest PLLs. Luckily, lots of other algs are based loosely off of it. As you can see, there is one corner that is opposite all of the other colors around it, and there are 2 bars on either side of it. The alg is:
F (R U' R' U') (R U R') F' (R U R' U') (R' F R F')
I remembered this alg by seeing that it is really just 2 easy OLLs combined. The first part you just have to memorize, but the second part is simply just the sexy move then the sledgehammer.
This case is called Fruruf, or sexy T. It is a very easy case to learn, and it is just F /
sexy move F'. I recognize it by the T shape that you hold as shown above, and the headlights on the left.
Level 2:
This is a very easy to recognize WV case. The way you recognize it is that all of the LL is oriented, except for the pair.
L' U2 (R U R') U2 L
I remember it as: L' splits up the pair, then you do a U2 and insert the split pair, then you undo, so U2
L.
This is an ELL case that is easy to recognize due to the H perm and opposite edge flip.
(M' U' M2 U2)(M' U' M' U2) M' U M U M
If you do M moves with your left and Us with your right, just turn all of the U's into Us and vice versa. I feel this alg is more friendly for right hand M slice users.
I remember it as it is shown, with 2 four move triggers that are slightly different, then some other random M moves.
Level 3:
This is an easy 2GLL case, it is an H case with a solved 1x3 bar on the side, and the opposite edge is in front.
(R U R' U R U2 R') U' (R U2 R' U' R U' R')
Remembering this alg is really easy, it's just Sune U' Antisune.
This is an easy 1LLL case, you recognize it by seeing the T OLL and noticing that everything is solved, except two F2L pairs on the B face F2L have switched positions.
The alg is performed from the U AUF of the above image.
(U) [L F: J perm] or (U) L F R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R' U' F' L'
