Thanks for giving me a break, that is.
For awhile I've been displeased with the length for some of my school's holiday breaks (IamSpoiled?
), so I was surprised when I found my Thanksgiving break was the entire week off from school! And add on to that this weekend and the one following the school week, and that's 9 days off from school! What does that mean for a dedicated speedcuber? Practice, practice, practice!
But this is also a very special time for me (lol), as far as cubing goes. I learned in June last year, and I practiced, timed myself, and had that time period where I was the newb using vaseline (thanks a lot, Dan! haha). But with reactions from some people at school a while after it (school) started back, I was encouraged to keep getting faster.
After sub-1:25, I started doing research on faster methods, tips and tricks and found Fridrich. More importantly, I found badmephisto. Before him though I saw random tutorials about this 'F2L' thing, this 'Petrus' thing, and what are these terms 'OLL skip' and 'LL!'?
In November I wrote down algs and drew diagrams for 2-look OLL cases, and began learning. I started learning 2-look PLL too. I started practicing more, too. Before then, practicing just happened when I felt like it, and I did other things (my older YouTube vids, video games, etc.) equally.
THANKSGIVING BREAK: It was on at the point. Seriously, things took off. Everday of that break had a lot of cubing at some point, I was learning OLLs, picking which Sune and Anti-Sune algs to learn, praciting a lot... I found CCT and Cubemania (before that it was only Cube Timer), starting getting sub-1:00, and it was all fun. In one night, I wrote down EVERY one of badmephisto's OLLs with diagrams and his comments. I pulled an all-nighter then, and might have at least one more time over the break! I found these forums then too, if you look at the date I joined here it says 'Nov. 2008.' I was dropping my time, learning algs, learning more about speedcubing in general, and having fun.
Now here I am, one year later. 50 seconds then, 16 seconds now. I'm finally going to finish learning my OLLs on the anniversary of when I started. Obviously, I was in no rush to learn them, lol. I can eat the same snack(s) that I hate, I moved my desk to be the same way, I've got my cubes, and I'm ready to have fun. The cold air from this time of year is setting in, the holidays are coming, and I'm getting that nostalgic feeling. But this year I have a new laptop, more cubes, and cat to accompany me. Here come the good times, everyone.
Happy Thanksgiving.
TL;DR: I learned how to solve the 3x3x3 over a year ago, but got serious about speedcubing at this time of last year. The nostalgia's back, happy holidays, and if you read this without reading the main post, gtfo you lazy cuber.
