Hey, its time for new stickers, and i was wondering what everyone uses/prefers/knows about. For my eastsheen 4x4, which actually doesnt relle need stickers yet, i was thinking of textured tiles. for my two 3x3's i was thinking textured for one and fluorescent/"exotic" colours. exotic as in like black/purple/lt blue/fl pink/copper/tan/silver/gold/chrome/lt green. i wondered if people think that any of those colours would improve colour recognition, and also if the textured tiles make much of a difference. and for "exotic" coloured cube, i was thinking like black, purple, white, lt blue, lt green, and fl pink, or something like that. anyway i dont want to stray TOO far from the normal colours, or it'll take a while to get used to, so i might scratch the purple and pink, and go with fl orange and fl red or something. anyway, to end a long post, 10 points to whoever finds a clue about me through my spelling :D.

My experience with different colors is this:

I have textured tiles on a 3x3, 4x4, and 5x5 (all Rubiks).
I had a cube with pink opp fl orange, purp opp yellow, and lt blue opp fl green.
Non-textured tiles I have played with and have sets waiting for cubes to come in.

I used the "exotic" colored cube, only when I didn't feel like using any other. I almost never used it for speedcubing, and the completely different color scheme killed my time. Changing just one color doesn't do much, as i replaced white wth black on my White DIY. I love the both the textured and non-textured tiles, but I would refrain from putting them on an eastsheen because of how long an eastsheen lasts. I dont think it's worth a $6 investment on a cube that doesn't last long. If you're not really using the 4x4 intesnely, then I guess you could get them, but for me, I break down eastsheens extremely quickly unless I keep them for competition solving.

I know of course the tiles last forever but do the vinyls last an equal amount of time???
I think it would be pretty kool to have a cube with very strange color stickers on it. If you got to where you could be fast with lots of different colored cubes do you think it would help with being color neutral?
Anyone have any ideas what colors would look kool on a green cube4you diy?

I'm using fluorescent stickers from Cube Smith following the White opposite Blue color scheme.

I use them on three of my 3x3x3 and have a similar colors scheme with my 4x4x4.

I haven't bothered replacing my 5x5x5 stickers as they're not peeling off yet. I really don't look forward to putting stickers on them :-P

i bought the fluorescent sticker set (yellow green and orange in fluorescent, rest normal), and i like it very much. the stickers are easily distinguishable and have a high relative contrast to each other. i wont ever buy the non fluorescent stickers again.
they are also vinyl stickers and last quite long, but they do chip after a some time.

I hated the textured tiles!

A friend and I bought cubesmith.com textured tiles. We both immediately hated them. They are actually more slippery than PVC stickers. As well we both found the grit on them to feel strange and generally "uncool".

I want to try the smooth tiles for a change. I love PVC stickers from cubesmith.com! They last quite a long time, and generally will chip away rather than peel away.

I will give a warning about the gold and silver mylar stickers from cubesmith.

I found that when speedcubing they were not very effective. The stickers reflect so well that in certain lighting conditions they would reflect a background colour (ie green, blue) instead of appearing gold/sliver. This caused me to misread my cube when going quickly sometimes.

The mylar as well tends to peel instead of chips. This means corners will start lifting and peeling easily. Once they stick up they tend to get worse quickly. I tended to replace mine three times as often as my regular PVC stickers.

I have since switched to only PVC standard colour stickers on my speedcube. It has the best visual recognition/durability. It also uses a very widely adopted colour scheme so I can use anyone else's cube comfortably.

Avoid the Mylar gold and chrome stickers like the devil. Vinyl copper and vinyl silver last so much longer, although not shiny.

Where do you get vinyl copper and silver stickers?

I mentioned the durability of the mylar ones in my post above. For a show cube (non speedcube) I would love a more consistent sticker type. I personally prefer chipping to peeling.

Less shine probably also reduces the likelihood of reflecting a background colour leading to confusion. I also mentioned this problem above...

Hmmmm... vinyl
