Hi,

I currently average 20s on 3x3, using CFOP (2 Look OLL, Full PLL). FYI my F2L is kinda bad(I struggle to find pieces) and my tps is mid.

I am now taking a break from 3x3, and working on 4x4, Megaminx, and Pyraminx, and maybe 2x2.

I wanted to get some target averages based on other’s experience, to see where I should aim to be for each event using the following methods:
2x2(Ortega)
4x4(Reduction/Basic Yau with normal edge pairing)
Megaminx(Super Basic JPerm tutorial)
Pyraminx(First Layer -> LL Alg)

Hope some insight can be given

Sorry to follow up but are there any numbers/wca profiles someone can offer?

I watched a Tymon Q&A and something he said struck a chord with me: A lot of fast solvers (sub 20 and beyond) still do F2L the same way as if they were 40-50 second solvers.

I'm way slower than you on a tps level, but I can give you advice on efficiency from what I've picked up blockbuilding in ZZ (should apply to CFOP as well) and also some CFOP-specific stuff I learned when I used that method:
- Try to force pseudoslots if it's easy. For example, if you already have a corner and an edge solved, it's a free pseudopair. Also, if you have a misoriented corner, look out for that case aswell because you can save some moves
- When you can preserve 2 pairs, try to solve them both
- When getting to last slot, see if it cancels into a sune or another alg that takes out the pair.
- Learn to do edge control on last slot with sledgehammer (or maybe some ZBLS algs, a lot of them are intuitive) so you don't have to do EO separately for 2-look OLL
- Speaking of EO, J Perm has a nice video on the "EO recognition technique" for CFOP F2L. Instead of looking at pair colors and wasting time thinking whether or not to rotate, this technique means less info actually goes through your head as you solve and will make F2L pairs more of a "knee-jerk reaction"
- Also, if you have a corner solved after making a cross, add the edge for an easy XCross (it goes the other way too)
- Try avoiding B moves when making the cross, rotations actually have less regrips than B moves
- Learn some rotationless pair inserts
