super slow at solving!

It seems to me that these are the most common comments:

Make a video so we can see what you're doing and how we can help.

Go back to a beginners method. Despite what you think most people on these threads have a higher knowledge of the cube. That's why you came here. So telling these people that you don't want to is just counter productive and proves to everyone who reads the thread that you don't really want help. You just want a place to complain.

If you're using full OLL and PLL dial it back to 2-look methods. They might seem slower in the beginning but if most of your time is spent pausing it would be better for you to use 2-look since there's less than ten cases you have to identify.

Practice!!!!! Everyone here cubes. A lot. Because those who don't really care about cubing but can solve a cube don't bother looking for resources on how to get faster.

I only started cubing this summer. I solved my first cube at like 2 am. By the end of the next day my best was down to about 2:30. I used a beginners method until I averaged about a minute and then I started watching some of badmephistos and monkeydude1313s youtube videos(thrawst has some videos too but I've never really watched them). I"m still transitioning into Fridrich and I only know about 10 PLLs and no OLLs but I still average under a minute (check my signature). Forget about F2L. At 2:30 F2L is just a hindrance since you lack any look ahead or anticipation skills. If you solve with the cross on the bottom stick with that but if you're using a daisy method then stick with that. The most crucial thing is practice. But remember: Practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. Blindly solving the cube over and over and over and over is just stupid. Every time you pick up a cube you should have an intention of what you're going to work on. I am by no means an expert in anything pertaining to cubing but I think most people would agree with what I've said.

ive been cubing for like a year but very little considering i have school. I do not want to go with a beginner's method cuz that will only slow down my time. and about zz, I know how make all the edges good, do the eoline and build blocks and the oll and pll. I know f2l sorta good and oll and pll pretty nicly. I believe that my problem is that i pause and look around the cube to figure at what i need to next to often, but if i dont do that i want know what do next.

if you want to learn new method, go with beginner method. if you like zz method, it would benefit you strongly to become much stronger in the basic function of the cube.
^This guy has the idea (had to cut alotta stuff out). But, DO NOT learn 4LLL, let alone 2LLL until your times are way down. Sub 90 seconds ATLEAST. Learn badmephisto's beginner method, I don't care if it will make you slower. Use it for a while, and you should be able to get sub 90 seconds after some time.
Then you can't expect any useful help.

this exactly, if there's no video, we can't see exactly what you are doing wrong
Post a video if you can. DON'T be shy if you want your time to lower.

Seriously. Solve the cube over and over 50 times is NOT as good as solving it KNOWING what to work on and TRYING to work on that 12 times.
Perfect practice > random solving.
If you say you don't have much time, then practice focussing on something to get better at. DO NOT try to get better in general. One step at a time. Even 5-10 min a day working on how to make your time for the cross faster or something is much better than doing 20 minutes of random solving a day.
EDIT: yay my 100th post is a lecture ._.

I can't see how you are going so slow, today, I broke 40 secs and I have only been able to do the cube for about 2 months now. Practice is all you need right now and at times like that, I would do what the other people do and step back to an easier method until you get to know the cube better.

Seems to me you are trying too much too soon.
As a result you have to think too much during your solves.

As other people already suggested; go back to a LBL method for a while.
Your recognition will improve, your turning speed and times wil improve and above all: your confidence will grow.

I suggest using the Last layer approach as in Badmephistos tutorial.
Perhaps using the Corner Permutation before Orientation as in Jasmine Lee' tutorial.

With this approach (incl daisy method for the white cross too) my 5.5 year old daughter avarages 2:10 and she only practices less than an hour per day.

Learning too many alg's to fast freezes your brain and slows down the building of confidence.

Why do you guys want him to go back to beginners method? Why not start now with the method he's gonna be fast with? It's not like these more advanced methods can't teach the basics >.>.

Going back to the beginners method would help him with the basics. More advanced methods would only make it more confusing, because there's more things to think about.

@ Edward: To get more confident in solving.
LBL is most likely to improve his speed at this moment.

This builds confidence that he can indeed improve.
When learning a lot at once makes it is much more difficult to improve your times.

Because he first has to understand how to do it with the beginner's method, before trying the advanced method.

By learning the beginner's method, he can train his mind to better recognize F2L, OLL, and PLL cases. And with the few moves they teach, you learn ho wto recognize the cases, and apply the algorithms.

Once you've got the beginner method done, you can start learning more advanced methods, and learning more algs and different cases to recognize. Since you've already learned how to recognize easier cases, you are used to it, and can easily recognize the harder cases, and better remember the advanced algorithms.

By jumping into full Fridrich, he is trying to learn way too much at once. Way too many algs and F2L, OLL, PLL cases to recognize.

No matter how good of an athlete, you can't just jump into a sport, at professional level, and expect to do good, if you didn't go through the beginning steps of getting to that level.

go backwards and practise beginner method if you at such low times... lots of things are causing these times
look-ahead
recognising the patterns
execution speed (if your trying to remember algs instead of muscle memory)
maybe you need a DIY too
and lastly it would probably be that your using a method you dont understand so much... i recomend using a method you can understand why it works..

Heres what you do:

practicepracticepracticepracticepracticepracticepracticepracticepracticepracticepracticepracticepractice and practice more.

And when you think you've practiced WAY to much, practice more.

Because the advanced methods are more or less spamming algorithms. With a beginner method you don't spend so much effort recognizing a case and recalling which of your 70 memorized algorithms you should use, and you can actually focus on what's going on with the cube instead. Since he's already started memorizing Fridrich algs it will be easier for him to get faster later, but right now he has to focus on the basics. You don't learn to run before you can walk.

I did a few solves using fridrich f2l and 4lll, after each step I turned the cube and examined every side, I used no inspection time and I only did turns with my entire hand (no finger tricks). My times averaged around 2:15-2:30. I fully believe this guy is a troll...

Ok, I easily dropped my times to like a min, does anyone know a good fingertricks tutorial or something?
