Starting Collections

So I have half a mind to start a cube collection; one with value.
What I mean is that I want to start a collection with rare cubes and such, but I don't know what to start with and where...
Can anyone give suggestions on how I can build up my collection?

The twistypuzzles forums are probably a better place to start. Start looking through their museum at all the old Politechnika cubes.

But I was also thinking about SLIGHTLY older cubes that weren't recently released and were produced in small numbers.
These can be a good start, however.
Like for example I found a place for a purple guhong (actually quite common but anyway) and a pink guhong.

Wait this is the pink guhong (idk if it's v1 or v2) is this old plastic? I forget if old guhongs have black screws and I don't know the exact core color for ops either

There were 2 different shades of pink Guhongs both v1, one was darker and were some of the first Guhongs ever made. Then there were the bright pink ones like the picture you posted. The new ones are not old plastic are not very hard to find but probably worth picking up. The purple Guhong v2 isn't very rare at all but again I'm not sure if they're still making it as I've seen it not be restocked in a few stores.

I'm going for something like this too, I decided to start with the somewhat recent LE that are still running around, like macaron purple GAN air master, and got the emerald green/sakura pink GTS2M (I don't like the blue one, and no one seems to know if the purple one even exists)
After that, looking at somewhat older cubes, I'd go for colored tanglongs, aolongs and stuff like that, the ones that have been actually discontinued, you can check in thecubicle for the exact colors so you can keep them in mind, you can still find them here and there (ie. found a crystal aolong v2 a couple weeks ago). Also stuff like the discontinued Aolong V1.
Also, remember that the regular GTS is out of production, so you should grab any of those if you can find them, especially the illusion ones, at least imo
