Square-1 +2 penalty

But you're square-1 can end like that after a solve... It's the same as saying that you can't do a 48 degree turn on a 3x3, but still, it's a +2...

Also, when you look at the WCA regulations, the tolerated amount of degrees that a face may be turned away from it's correct position is half of 1 turn. The smallest functional turn you can do with a slash is 180 degrees. Does an 85 degree misalignment make it solved or +2? It's not mentioned in the regulations.

Okay, that was a bit unclear. Still, "/0,2 = DNF"... that is not a position you could be in. You can't do (0,-2)/ on a solved sq1. Same thing applies with /(1,1), (1,0)/(1,0), (1,0)/(1,1), and (1,1)/(1,1). Those are all impossible.

Fair enough. But still, it gives a clear impression of what's okay and what isn't. Now, what is the maximum misalignment on a / turn? Is that 45 degrees or 90 degrees? The shortest functional turn is 180 degrees, so I'd say 90 degrees would be fair. Does anyone know more about this?

The problem with 90 degrees is that it's more likely to land right on 90 than any other angle. I'd prefer 45 to be the limit, since it's so much less likely to happen and easier to judge one way or the other if it does.
