they split the countries into four types based on FIFA world rankings:
the top 7 countries + host country
the next 8 ranked countries
next 8 countries
lowest 8 countries

Then they choose one random from each and so that's how there are 8 groups of 4, that are not too biased

All I am saying is that the format is basically saying, "To win this comp, you need a bit of luck." Comps aren't supposed to be based on chance, it is based on skill.

nigel you should just do top 25% of the total competitors, this format is like some normal wca comps and is easier for everyone. i agree with the people saying the current format is too luck based.
