Hey everyone!
Got bitten by the speedcubing bug pretty late in life! Better late than never I say. Driving everyone @ home nuts.
Picked up a 3x3 in February (3 months ago). I’m down to 64 sec. avg.

(of course- just learned F2L yesterday… and now my time is around 100. Ugh!)

goal… sub 60 a month from now. And sub 30 for my first competition @ end of July.

Can you provide a time-split of a random solve so you could improve faster (know which area to focus on)?

Welcome and good luck. Sub-30 in 2 months might be tough but don't let me discourage you and go for it.

O that’s easy to point out. Cross in 8 secs. F2L in 1:20 and the rest in 15-20. My problem is identifying and finding pairs. Too much time “looking” for them.

I think you should practice F2L and cross more. All crosses can be solved in 8 moves or less, and you seem to be taking a bit of time for that.
For F2L, instead of focusing on one pair to do and looking all over the cube for it, you should look at other pairs where you can already see both the edges and the corner. If you solve that first, things are going to progress a bit faster.

He shouldn't do look-ahead yet. That is bad for a beginner to do, and too advanced for @drgs to use successfully RN, as he has trouble even solving the pairs.

I don't mean look-ahead. I mean, for example, the first pair you want to solve is, say, orange blue. But you can't find the orange blue edge. So instead of rotating and looking all over the cube to find it, he should focus on another pair that he is able to see both pieces, and after he's done with that, move onto other pairs.

Thanks everyone. Three weeks later update….
Went from 67 in beginners method to 110 with CFOP. And 3 weeks later, back down to 63 average. Really hoping for sub 60 in a week… and then we’ll see for the next month.

Congrats!
At this point your time should tick down fairly quickly.

helloo! pretty sure that you'll be sub 60 and ( in no time ) sub 30. tips to help even a little bit: 1. dont use the''daisy method'' to solve the cross (if you're still using this method) it wastes much time. 2. try to be color neutral ( able to solve the cube not only with the white cross ) it might be hard at the beggining but trust me it will help alot. 3. MAYBE try learning 2-look OLL and 2-look PLL you're still a begginer but idk you can try learning this method... 4. fingertricks for that you can watch some videos from a ytuber called ''J PERM'' his videos are sooo helpful!
soo those are my tips... I wish you good luck and dont worry you will get that sub 30

Thanks. Yeah. Feel like I’m hitting a wall… but will give OLL/ PLL a good look tonight. See what happens.

@drgs Have you seen the "Older cubers discussions" post?

Also, since WCA doesn't have age divisions of any kind, much less for seniors, one of the people from that Older Cubers thread created a website just to track seniors, 40+, 50+, 60+, etc - https://logiqx.github.io/wca-ipy-www/index.html

And there is a Facebook group called Senior Cubers Worldwide, too.

So in denial to look at anything with the label “senior”. =). But yes, I checked it out. Will probably tag it after my first WCA competition. Nice… but ugh… but nice!

Whoa! Thanks. Opened a new world!
I was doing cross- FLL…. Then beginner last layer.
But 2 look OLL is SO MUCH FASTER!
down to 47 secs (without PLL… yet).
Very cool. Thanks fani
Gonna spend 2 days getting 2 look OLL into muscle memory. Then onto PLL. More soon.
