greetings all. The name is Michael from the states. I'm in my early 20s and got started in cubing a few years ago, but took a break for a while and now I'm back with a vengeance. Currently in university in the south, but plan on cubing hardcore. I'm so ready to do this, I learned 2 look oll and pll in a night, and before anyone jumps all over me, my best Ao5 is 1:02.

welcome! you seem pretty hardcore to me.
are you hardcore enough to give a blockbuilding method a try? you might like it.

Roux or ZZ? I can't wrap my head around ZZ FOR THE LIFE OF ME. Point me in the direction of a good Doux tutorial, though, I'll give anything a try once.

Why is Roux so restrictive in moves?

even if you don't stick to any of these methods long term, they really help. no matter what method you end up picking.
roux obviously teaches you to block build
but at the same time it helps you pay attention to edge orientation during the first 2 blocks
and for last layer you'll see your corners right away, which isn't as natural in other methods
and it'll teach you to have fast M turns :)

Why is Roux so restrictive in moves?

thanks for watching my video series :) You're the first person who has ever asked this after watching, so I figured I should answer you personally.

Your first block will be less restrictive once you are able to become more creative with the way you build it. My method is just teaching the simplest form, but it's actually very intuitive.

The second block will pretty much always be restricted to RUM moves. This is fine though, because RUM are very easy to execute, and there's no rotations involved. Once you finish the corners, the MU Last 6 Edges is also extremely fast when you get good at it.

Your video series was very informative, and Roux seems very efficient. I'm just so used to CFOP it'll take some time to get used to it.
