Hello all, My name is Mike and I've been lurking for awhile now.

This place specifically and cubing in general is awesome, I just started about 3ish months ago.

I'm looking for an algorithm generator along the lines of cube explorer (which is godly btw) that includes double edge turns ((Dw, Lw, etc) mainly looking for 3x3). Anyone know of one? Does cube explorer do this already and I'm just missing it? Preferably windows based and something with a gui, I'm willing to learn command line syntax though if it's the only option. Thanks in advance and again I'm having so much fun I wish I would have found cubing years ago.

Only practical thing I know of is ksolve (commandline). Mitchell will hopefully find this thread and tell you.
Depending on what you need them for, it might just be easier to get specific algs from CE or ACube and convert them manually. Can you explain what this is for?

I certainly can, as I am just a beginner I'm going over f2l cases/insertions and making sure that I'm doing them optimally. There are many sites with algorithms for f2l but I'm specifically wanting to see for inserting a pair from a slot to another slot, rather than just knowing how to mirror and solve for a particular slot when the case is already at that slot. Did that make any sense?

Yes, it does make sense...If you take pictures of the cases, I will make YouTube vids to how to fix your 'problems'

Or perhaps a better description...?

Ooh, and thank you for being a good noob

Usually, when people joins these forums, they suck at everything!!!
Grammer, spelling, cubing...it's just horrible

It's better to have a good, cool n00b than an elite speedcuber that can't type for crap!

I simply mean if you have a case in the FL slot and the target slot is BL I'm trying to find the most optimal way of solving that situation etc.. It's not any specific case I'm interested in or having trouble with. I watched your f2l videos your list of what you want to do in your next set of videos seems more useful. Thanks for the kind words. Oh, I believe the word you meant was grammar.

For most cases, learning the pure "algs" is enough.
If you have an edge on U with its corner in a wrong slot, just pretend that it's the correct slot, do a normal alg, but move the pair around to the correct slot before the insertion. For example, do the pairing part of an "alg" at that FL slot, then do a d-turn, and the final L'U'L (or L'UL). Most of the time, that's enough. Even really fast cubers don't do much smarter stuff.

Macky has good algs here, and gives good advanced tricks.
Mitchell has some good optimal PLLs, if you want some better algs for cases you don't like.
Jason also lists some nice tricks here.

You really don't need anything else to get fast and efficient at F2L, except practice.

Nevertheless, it's always good to try to find better things yourself. I often try to find better F2L algs for specific cases with CE (like R'U2R'UR'U'RU2'R as a 2-gen alg).

If your main goal was to get good at F2L, and you thought that finding good algs for alternate slots would help a lot, I suggest this:
Spend some time learning all the algs and tricks you can find on those sites. If, after that, you still feel you want to go more optimal, you can still try to search for alternate-slot algs. :)

lol, nice catch!

I highly recommend badmephisto's videos on youtube...he gives a VERY nice guide..I'm not sure why you would need doule-layer turns, though.
A 'd' turn is just a U with a y'...the optimal solution would be equivalent in number of moves

Things like this are exactly what I'm talking about, f2l is very intuitive and I can figure this stuff out and have, I'm not insanely slow, with a so-so cube and not cubing for very long I average in the 30's which isn't horrible. (nothing like your awesome averages ;p) I guess my problem is I second guess myself, "am I doing it the right way?, is there some obvious way to handle this situation I'm not seeing?" these are the things that go through my head when I'm practicing f2l, I guess I just need to have more confidence. Thanks for the links, I'd seen all except Jason Baum's f2l page which seems like exactly what I need. And finally I believe if all else fails I can use CE and just figure out which block of moves leaves the cubies in the same position as a double layer move and then search for that block in the algorithms and replace. First I will continue learning backwards and forwards all the default (and the few special non intuitive situations) f2l cases and practicing them.

If you can execute a case quickly I wouldn't worry too much about optimal move count. Often an optimal solution for a particular case isn't the most fingertrick-friendly and may take longer to execute than a non-optimal solution.
