Solving the Magic

I searched a bit but couldn't find anything specific on this so...What is the best way to pick up a rubik's magic? I believe that picking it up contributes to a significant amount of time in the solve. Should I scoop it or...I don't know you tell me, thanks

Put your thumb on one side of the Magic, and your index finger on the other. Bring your thumb and index finger together with some force, and move your whole arm up.
Do this with both hands, and you'll have picked up the Rubik's Magic.

I also need the same advice...I now 'scoop' from the middle of each side...but I only get 2.5 avg

I can get sub-1.5's by picking it up regularlly. That's just because my Magic is really broken in and I have a special method to not get stuck on the last flap.

Well I'm not stupid, I'm just trying to find out a good way to pick it up, but you're right hawk, I should watch a few videos and just experiment to see what works best. Thanks

I just scoop the magic up as fas as I can, solve and throw it back down as fast as I can. I do this on top of my bed because scooping is easiser on a bed not on a floor where scooping is nearly impossible.

Uh, the official rules say you have to have it on a flat surface (like a table)...thats where most of the scooping problem lies.

its easier to pick up from a soft surface like a bed or carpet. so i practice on the mat so i can get the feel for it

i just scoop it up cuz im used to that since i do a majority of my solves on my bed

i just scoop it up cuz im used to that since i do a majority of my solves on my bed

all of you need to stop doing this immediately. i keep hearing about people practicing magic on their bed, and it bothers me. you are not helping yourself if you ever intend to compete in magic. the only way to improve on picking it up is to practice on a hard surface. people dont train for the tour de france with training wheels on their bikes, and you shouldnt train for magic on a soft surface. just practice practice practice on your desk/table, and you will get the hang of it.

My times vary by up to 1 second second based on how good my pickup is. One piece of advice I can offer is to keep the magic near the surface. Picking it up 2 feet above the stackmat is just a lot of wasted motion in both directions.
