Solving rythm (optimal)

I order to keep my times down (ie. going for avg) I have to follow a few rules.

I have to at start out slow (30+) by force. this is to realize (as I solve) that I can do much faster. after a few of those, I can speed things up.

I still have to force myself down in tempo.

then comes my optimal rythm.

cross:

I almost always look for the cross for at most 5-6 seconds. I dont need more time. if I use more time, I usually mess up, thinking "of I missed this or that", when I then start.
but also, I cant get it any faster than 4 seconds on average.

If I dont slow down in my cross I cant see the first pair. wich I rarely do. but I aim for cross+1st F2L pair. then 2nd+3rd pair (slowly but consistant). then 4th pair as fast as possible.
A fast last pair somehow helps me recognize and execute (3 sec max)OLL.
then my PLL recognision sucks! execusion is OK (about 3-4 sec)

my average times for 3x3x3 speedsolves are,

Cross+F2L: 13-17 seconds (my theroretical BEST: 11 sec)
OLL (recognision+ execution): 4-5 sec (-"-: 3 sec)
PLL (-"-): 5-6 seconds (-"-: 4 sec)
so about 22-30 seconds. usually about 25 seconds.

I have had these times for way too long now and I seriously wanna step up the game.

can you outspot something that I could improve on fast to shave off a couple of seconds?

I am going to a smaller competition in not long time and I wanna do good. maybe get a sub20 on record.

thanks for your time!

get your cross and f2l timings fast.. juz practise practise and practise.. my cross+f2l averages around 13-14 seconds now and im barely making sub-20
also practise on recognition of pll.

thanks for the advices!
thing is (I think same with everybody) I do WAY better off the timer. when I just sit down relaxed and just cube, I often feel like just flying thru solves (around 20 seconds). this is even more likely when I dont concentrate as much. w00t?

I can see myself mess up big time at a competition. :(

maybe I should practice a bit off the timer again. and come back after a while?
thats what I did last time I shaved some seconds off my average.

dont know... 2 months ago my sch held a rubik's cube competition for youth day haha. my average was 37 then.. and i did a 55sec in the finals. pressure haha. inserted 2 wrong f2l corners, and messed up my pll lol.

i do roughly average (of 12) a day, and the rest of my solves are either untimed, or juz timed cross+f2l (training for no delay)

when i cube with people like chue. i find myself supremely pressured, like i will "freeze" and lock up. so maybe listening to music? i time my turns with the tempo. so if you listen to some gay 200 to 300 tempo song, hahahaahaha. let's say that your timing will go very low.

At the moment I'm doing pretty much the same times as you and I also feel that I've been standing still for some time.
I've been training f2l alot (look ahead! look ahead!) which have given me a more stable avg, but not a great deal faster times.

If you feel bad at PLL recognition, maybe you could try slowing op at the end of oll until you get used to looking for PLL at that point. It worked for me anyway...

(have you learned BLD yet?)

well I havet learned Bld yet. but I have an idea of whats going on now. I havent done anything about practicing the moves and theory yet, but I will once I get bored with the other cube stuff I do :P

I am looking forward to be cubing with you Lars! I think we can bennefit good from cubing together

btw. I almost always cube while listening to music. thats cuz I always has the music going anyway ;)

wow! that was bad! haha! I predict the same thing will happen to me!

"Danish open 07 5th place Sigurd Wedel single solve: 40 seconds!!!"

NIGHTMARE!!! :)

I've been worried about the pressure of competion, so just before our unofficial Danish Open 07 I gathered a group of my coworkers (20 people or so) and forced them to watch me cube! Shaking hands and all I still hit my current average pretty well. It was nice training and they applauded too.

Don't worry Sigurd, I'm sure a sub20 solve will pop out of thin air.

By the way, I did a 15.82 solve yesterday, PLLskip but it felt nice!

hey, don't worry about anything, not metronome or anything, just slow down during F2L, and great times will slowly come.
