Just how much can a smart cube help an average cuber to learn and improve? I don't have much knowledge about the app, but I average like 20 right now so I'm wondering if it would be a good investment.

I don't think so they would be of much help. I heard that they give only splits, statistics and movecount which we (or CSTimer) could manually do.
Also lookahead is something that they can't calculate.
I was thinking more about how it saves your solves for easy replay... and you can watch what other people are doing too. I dunno. It's 60 bucks for the 356.
