I currently use Petrus method, and after looking at how good Fridrich users get after just a few months while using the method (sometimes sub-20 singles and sub-30 averages), I want to learn (I've been cubing almost a year now, and still haven't gotten a sub-40 single yet).

However, I'm competing in the San Francisco Open 2009 on January 19, less than a month away. I'm wondering whether I should start Fridrich now, and would it be possible for me to get a sub-40 time before January 19? Or should I just keep practicing Petrus until after the competition and then start learning Fridrich? I have no experience with Fridrich method so I need some help.

You've been using the same method for a year and now you think you can learn a new method in just two weeks and be faster?

I think you should practice Petrus for this competition and then find out what your goals in cubing are and then choose.

My intention was never to become a Fridrich user. After I finished with LBL. I tried to move on to Roux, but did not understand EO.
Then, after a while, I moved on to Petrus and undestood EO, but that step still takes forever for me.
After about a week of Petrus and sometimes forgetting to do EO, it just became Fridrich.

So if you want to use Fridrich, just do Petrus, forget to do EO and learn a few more algorithms.

No, I haven't been using Petrus for a year, sorry if I didn't make that clear. I've used the beginner method for a little over 11 months. Petrus I only started under a month ago. Beginner method I could never even get sub-minute. Petrus I can get sub-minute averages usually.

Look at the some pages, look up some info, and get a review of what Fridrich will be like. But for a competition coming up, stick with your method. After the competition, make the change to Fridrich.

Don't abandon your method just because you see others doing better with Fridrich, be someone using Petrus that yields great times.

Lastly, if you average 40 with Petrus, switching to Fridrich won't do something 'too amazing' in 3 weeks, unless cubing is as important as eating to you.

Oh, and have fun at the competition, good luck.

my list of attempted methods in order

- LBL - good start
- Fridrich - epic fail
- Roux - FTW!!!!
- Petrus - I hate U (perm :D)
- Heise - Block building help
- ZZ - Amazing but i'm no good at it :p

and only roux stuck on me

It's probably the last layer you are having problems with. Learn OLL and PLL. Petrus F2L is good.
