I'm wondering if it is a bad idea to skip buying a Mefferts/Eastsheen 4x4x4 cube and just buy a v-cube 5x5x5 from a local game daze.

There are no stores that sell any non-Rubik's 4x4x4 cube and I don't want to ask my parents to use their card to make an online purchase so Im thinking maybe I should just skip learning to speedsolve a 4x4x4

I have had a 4x4x4 for a while now however it's a Rubik's brand and is horrible and can hardly solve it without a constant fear of it popping.

I completely understand how to solve a 4x4x4 since I do own one but it just doesn't allow me to speedsolve it since it pops so easily.

I personally prefer 5x5 to 4x4, but it's up to you. There's also plenty of USA-based stores that sell both, along with Popbuying that you can order non-Rubik's stuff.

1. 4x4 is smaller than 5x5, not necessarily harder, there are just more pieces to solve with the 5x5. Also with 4x4, Meffert's/QJ, forget about ES. I have a Mini QJ and it is superior in every way to my ES.

2. You'll have to buy online either way, unless you know of a secret place that sells v-cubes.

3. You can try this if all else fails. :D

Oops. But won't he need a credit card to get a V-Cube anyway?

Then buy whatever's available to you. It won't be difficult to skip puzzles. I went straight from 4x4 to a (virtual) 7x7 or something like that.
