well . the best way is to solve over and over until it gets looser.
and my magic is awfully loose

your last solve is actually a +2. The regulations are sort of funky, but I've deduced that either folded under is no penalty, or only a +2.

I'm pretty sure that if it is raised more than the height of 2 magics on top of each other at any point, then it's a DNF, at least, that's the rule I was taught.
