There's something that's always confused me, and figured I might as well ask before it... keeps bugging me some more.

On the actual Rubik's brand cube, store-bought, the colours are as shown on any solving website. Yellow opposite white, blue opposite green, orange opposite red.

However, on a Rubik's brand, store-bought (so not DIY) 2x2 cube, yellow is opposite green, blue is opposite white, and the only thing that matches the 3x3 is that orange is opposite red.

Is there any particular reason for this? It's always just seemed peculiar that it would be different. It would just stand to reason (in my mind, at least), that any of the cube (sticking with Rubik's brand, just for the sake of consistency) sizes would have a different colour pattern.

Anyone have any insight into this?

Oooooh yeah, no disagreement there. The Rubik's 2x2 sucks pretty hard. However, I picked it up on a complete whim one day, and it's what got me into cubing as a whole, so it gets at least that recognition :P. But I still want to replace it with something... less crap :P.

Doing a quick look online though, thinking of different brands, it looks like the eastsheen 2x2 is the same as the Rubik's 2x2 for colours (their site didn't seem to have a 3x3... but their site is annoying as hell, so I could have just missed it. Also couldn't compare all sides, since pictures tend to only show from one angle, but one pic had it partially mixed up by one rotation). V-cubes 5-7 ones seem to match the original 3x3x3 Rubik's cube, although their pictures only show from one angle of three colours, so I can't compare the other 3.

So yeah, from these few sites anyway, it seems only the 2x2 is different. Unless my 2x2 is some weird, freak stickering pattern defect.

Maybe it's your 2x2. BTW, ES 2x2 have the same color scheme as the original rubik's 3x3 cube. The only difference is that the orange side is pinkish or something (like magenta)

Yes, rubik's 2x2 sucks, just get an eastheen which has almost the same color scheme (except it's dark pink instead of orange). Don't know why they did it that way.
