[fjb1511]

hi everyone , im new to this so might be on wrong thread!
my dad used to work in budapest a lot and met the inventor of rubiks cube at a hotel in the 70's
he gave my dad this cube (see attachment)
i was curious of its value
its in great condition but no proof of meeting etc
no box with it
long before the days of mobile phones so no picture of him .

Unless your father was in good with the folks at Ideal Toys and got one of the first line prototypes in like 1979 then this is definitely from at least 1980. Erno Rubik's cube was sold as the "Magic Cube" in Hungarian toy shops from 1977 until Ideal Toys bought the rights and released them internationally in 1980 as the "Rubik's Cube". That logo didn't even exist prior to Ideal Toys buying the rights.

I think your right. But they changed in 1980 so it could still be around 45 years old.
