quest to sub-10 // 2x2 detour

i finished PLL today, not too bad. i also learnt some ez OLL cases and their algs, so now i have that down. i guess the only thing i have to improve upon for this month is F2L.
For F2L, try to do slow solves while being able to find your pairs and turning without pauses (you will have small pauses in your solves). This will be hard at first but once you do it, it will help you improve a lot. Hope this helps

i actually have begun to do that, so i think this is absolutely the best thing to do while practicing F2L right now.

my 3x3 average has improved a lot. sub 23 has been achieved, but i'm getting sub 20 solves often. one thing i've noticed is that once i reach PLL, i kind of slow down just a bit, which leads to a 2-3 second increase. i don't know why this happens, but i'll work on it.

ok i got an INSANELY lucky scramble but i deleted the solve by accident :(. on the other hand, that scramble gave me a 9.5!!!!!!!!!!! SUB 10 SINGLE.

from what i can remember, the yellow cross was pretty much done, and then blue orange pair set up red and blue which setup green and orange and then an ez case with red and green. OLL SKIP into F Perm.

won't count it since i deleted it but still, that was amazing.

If it was a legit scramble, then I would count it even if you don't have the scramble, also how can you delete it by accident?

sub-20 is REALLY close now, i've dropped my ao100 to 21.37 and i am consistently getting high 18s to low 19s with a few low 20s-low 21s in the middle.

edit: i'll attach an ss of my averages:

i've finally gotten a sub 20 ao100. after 2 weeks of revision and relearning, i've done it. although i'm still getting 21s and 20s, they aren't as often as they were, and i mostly get 19s and 18s now. very happy, i bet a few more hours of practice will help me get to pure sub 20. also, i'm relearning pyraminx, and that's also fun. so is skewb, but i'm very slow at it. 4x4 is still aight, still sub 2, and i just don't practice 2x2 anymore but i guess i will. on the flip side, tomorrow i have an exam on the worst subject (2L) and i do not have the will to study 800-ish idioms for the same (they're difficult to remember) so yeah. also, me and a few of my friends who cube in my school were thinking of organizing an unofficial comp. if we do follow through with this plan, i'll keep updating you guys.

i think i've made it to sub 20. after like 3 years of frustration, disappointment and failure, i've done it. this has been one of the hardest challenges in my journey so far, but i think i've done it!!

Amazing, congratulations! Gotta finish OLL now, and learn some F2L algs too. You'll be sub-15 or even sub-10 in no time.

heyo, i'm back, i took a quick break cause of school and the workload. i have a few days before i must go. i'm grinding PLL algorithms and F2L cases just to get down to sub 3 on those. on a side note, i played my very first chess tournament in school and got 2.5/6 (strong opponents but 2 wins and a draw is fine). i guess that's it for now

hello, i'm back (after 532 days).

i left cubing after that last post, i got pretty frustrated when i couldn't improve from sub20 and regressed to a 21s average.

in this past year however, i have learnt the importance of discipline, confidence, and focus. 3 things that have helped me improve everywhere. and two weeks ago, i decided to apply this to speedcubing, because, well, why not?

in these past two weeks, i have dropped my average from sub 20 to sub 15. power of confidence, i guess? (also the fact that i started solving slower, thinking more before making a move.)

i plan to stay consistent throughout the next few years, albeit this year will be hectic for me, what with it being my final year of school and all. but, i think cubing is a much better use of my time than whiling it away watching yt and stuff.

so yeah... i'm reactivating this just to make sure i stay on track.

today, i'll be targeting the following:
  • OLL -> at least 5-10 cases
  • F2L -> practice + some annoying cases
  • 2x2 -> Just practice for an online comp
  • 4x4 -> practice
  • skewb -> practice
  • pyraminx -> practice + learn a new alg
in addition, i also want to start learning 3BLD, but despite all the resources online, i can't understand any of them :p. i tried watching the jperm video but i got super confused and quit halfway through. if anyone has good resources for this, please do let me know!

i'll update this again just after that online comp, i feel good about it considering the fact that I've podiumed in all the events I've participated in so far in previous editions of the same. (except 4x4... i realllly need to work on 4x4).

I did a 50 solve sprint, and here are my thoughts and comments:
  1. I don't know why there are three solves without scrambles, but they're there?
  2. The 17 and 16 second solves were mostly done on yellow cross, I'm trying to improve my color neutrality. It took me a bit longer because I got confused during F2L, what with the reverse color order and all. Besides F2L, OLL and PLL were standard.
  3. Otherwise, in those solves, I encountered OLL cases I had just learnt, so those took away ~1-2 seconds in recog + execution.
  4. 15 second solves: These are, from my analysis, because of cube lockups + slow PLL. I think it's great that my new main is coming soon, that should help with the lockups.
  5. Otherwise, the rest of the solves were standard: good cross, smooth F2L into LL.
That's it for now, I'll learn a few more OLL algorithms + better finger tricks.

today's accomplishments:
  1. 5 new cases of OLL learnt, although they need practice.
  2. 14.04 ao100, PB ao12
  3. 4x4: 0 progress 💀
  4. 2x2: just grinded out solves after refreshing ortega, i have a ~4.8 avg with that now
  5. skewb: just grinded out solves using the one alg i know
  6. pyra: 0 progress 💀
all in all, a sort of productive day, i definitely could've done more, but i lacked the patience for 4x4.
i have an exam on monday, so tomorrow will be a little less productive, but i will try and make time for a few things:
  1. 3x3: Practice + at least 3 OLL cases
  2. 2x2: Practice

updates:
  1. I learned 2 algs in OLL
  2. I broke my 2x2 (it fell on the floor, and the corner attached to the core just broke off
  3. I'm getting a new 3x3 (XT3-v1, it was affordable and I wanted to try something other than the RS3M)
  4. I relearnt Yau and some part of 3-2-3.
  5. I finally understand Old Pochmann, I'll try to do a sighted solve after my test tomorrow.
