QJ or mf8 minx?

I have quite a few but I still don't have a true Meffert's: when mefferts.com announced that megaminxes were available again last year I ordered one (for $28USD) but I was supplied with a MF8 minx!!! Very disappointing as I was expecting a genuine (and now seemingly legendary :) ) Meffert's Minx.

However this MF8 is real quick and my preferred minx for speed. It pops like mad though and I guess that this is the first edition.

I recently got a black QJ megaminx from popbuying (SKU 24166 $8.04) which is just a cheap PVC minx with pretty good tiles. This is a fine puzzle after sanding all the sharp internal edges that would cause the lockups (as per Stefan's description) and of course adjusting the spring tension and lubricating.

Most of my other minxes are PVC minxes - they are all cast from the same mold but vary in how nicely finished they are, e.g. my puzl.co.uk minx was nicest PVC out-of-the-box with less sharp edges, good quality lexan tiles (well placed, good colours), suitably lubed, no need for screw adjustment, etc. Some other PVC minxes have been thrown together with little quality control, cheap and badly placed stickers, random tensions, etc. You have to spend some time working on them to have a satisfactory puzzle but like most cubers I don't mind dedicating a few hours when results count.

Which meffert's minx did you get? Was it this one?

QJs are great, you won't regret buying them

it's just the weight of the cube that makes it hard to hold onto, unless you're Dan Cohen.

I have a QJ, an MF8 I and an MF8 II, as well as a supernova.

I like my old MF8 the most, but probably because i did about 6000 solves on it and i am used to he feel.
The QJ is just too heavy to have a good feel in your hands.
The new MF8 is literally unpoppable, but the corner cutting could be better.

Overall I´d say, get the new MF8 II, get used to its feel and sub 1 it^^

How's the supernova as far as speedsolving goes? I know the old ones are sort of legendary for smoothness, and the new ones have generally been well-received, but are they worth it? (being the same price as a Meffert's minx)

Hmmm, the Meffert's website is a nightmare :)

That URL wouldn't work for me until I removed the id= parameter...

...as for "product 4" being a genuine bona-fide Meffert's MegaMinx, well I'd guess it is (there's more than one type), but the only way to be sure is to ask mefferts.com.

Ok sorry for the bump, but i have a question. Is the QJ a mefferts clone? the picture i provided includes pieces from a mefferts. they look really similar to my QJ megmainx pieces. so i think its a clone of the mefferts
