This isn't exactly an answer to your question but I have in my hand a pink DIY cube i ordered when they first put them on the site. SO they have shipped them out before..
Edit: Yes, it is pretty good. Not as good as my green one but its not as broken in as the green.

i ordered one for the wife during there little break and i just shipped like 2 days ago hope it gets here soon she keeps taking my white one :P

oh yeah it does say a, but i thought mine was c because it doesnt have that crazy new design that the new type a's have

Well the best way, IMO, to tell the type is what washers it comes with. Like if it comes with 2 washers, a big and a small, then it's a type-A, because type-B's and ype-C's don't come with 2.

good to know, mines a type a then.

Is there a FAQ for the different types of cubes (A, B, C... whatever)? I got mine from PuzzleProz, and according to the description above, I have an A (black)...

Is there a definitive guide somewhere?

A= Best comes with 2 washers.
B= Worst...Bad core/plastic Kinda like the 99Cents store rubicks cube core.
C=Medium. Ok core,ok plastic, kinda like rubiks brand cube.

Thanks for the reply. I couldn't find anything on the site (except the letter). I am thinking about getting a 4x4. I told myself that I wouldn't even try a 4x4 until I could solve the 3x3 in under a minute (best, not average)... and I have had 2 sub-1min solves in 5 days.

I have two friends with 4x4s, one has a Rubik's and the other has an Eastsheen. I will have to play with them when I get a chance to see which I like, but it's nice to know what the letters mean
