Hey guys, I'm new to the speedsolving.com forums, and I have a question that may or may not cause a discussion. I saw the phantom pattern used on the Maru CX3S in a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFGmu7sLaQM) and I'm curious as to whether or not it is a good option in terms of speed-solving. I know it isn't competition legal because of the fact that it is by nature still a stickerless cube, but I still want a cube for myself to look like that. The only problem that I see in this is that because there is such a small amount of surface area dedicated to color, it hinders recognition, and speedsolving becomes difficult. However, I don't want to have to buy an actual phantom cube or replicate the design myself only to find that I don't like it. For those of you that don't know, the Phantom design is simply a stickerless cube that has all black stickers on it, causing it to have a really nice-looking design (at least in my opinion). If any of you have a phantom cube yourself or at least have some insight as to whether or not it would be good for speedsolving, please tell me. Thanks!

Looks like a nice cube for a collection but as you said yourself it's illegal in competition at the moment and recognition would be poor making it a lousy choice for speedsolving.

I don't really care for the competition legal part of it anyway, what I'm more concerned about is the recognition, and whether or not it would be slower. Obviously the colors might be harder to see, but since you don't need to see the whole side of the cubie in order to recognize it is a certain color, I'm not so sure it would even matter if it was just the border being colored, not the whole surface of the cubie.
