I've been cubing for about a month now and average about 40s using the petrus method. two days ago i started learning COLL for the last layer and noticed a distinct lack of literature about using the two together. are there any problems with combining these or is it just not that common?

I was under the impression that COLL meant you'd orient the corners first after completing F2L. But in Petrus the edges are oriented first when you finish F2L. *shrug*

You could just work on learning more OLL and PLL after you complete Petrus F2L

COLL means finishing the corners of the last layer, should be called CPOLL. The only problems i know of with it are recognition, and the algs are not as fast as OLL and PLL, because they are less common and have had less work done on them.

Hmm, I suppose COLL just orients and permutes the LL corners while leaving the LL edges in tact.

So if you go from Petrus F2L you'll need a few algorithms to permute the edges correctly before proceeding to COLL.

Tim.

Guys. COLL orients and permutes the corners of the last layer, without changing the orientation of the edges. CLL doesn't pay attention to the LL edges at all, and CMLL to the LL edges and also to the M slice.
scsoup: I guess it's just not that common. Combining them would be nice, with all the egde permutations at the end, or (in 1/12 of the cases) without anything else at the end.

Yep, that's it. Would be cool if people didn't so often talk about things they are not sure about, it can cause a lot of unnecessary confusion.

Not a problem at all. Takes some practice, yes, but it's not difficult to master.

This is often overestimated. Finding good algs doesn't take dozens of very active cubers, one is enough. There are several COLL pages with nice algs out there.

What do you need exactly? I don't understand what you mean by using them together, F2L and LL are very distinct.

COLL is very useful to know, but most people find it easier to only orient corners and then use PLL.

I learned COLL from Bob Burtons website. I learned it before OLL because there is actually fewer algs to learn. (EO 3 cases + COLL 40 cases + EP 4 cases = 47 contra OLL 57 + PLL 21 = 78)

Now I've learned OLL and PLL, but still uses COLL in a lot of cases where edges are allready oriented.
