Hey guys i just started one handed. I wouls say i am quite good at small cubes in general. 2x2 5 second avg and 3x3 17 second avg. However one problem i am having is building the cross with only R and U. Are there any good oh cross tuts. Also i cant remember any algs. I know full pll and 2loll yet i cant even slightly remeber them because i learn my algs with pure mscle memory. And also how long will it take for sub 40 sub 30 and sub 20

Hi.

Good for you.

Maybe its because you usually can't build the cross 2-gen.
You could try rotating though.

Are there any good oh cross tuts.

Just build the cross.

Also i cant remember any algs.

Try practicing them.

because i learn my algs with pure mscle memory.

Don't do that.

And also how long will it take for sub 40 sub 30 and sub 20

In exactly 17 days you will get sub-40. 28 days after that you will get sub-30. 4 months exactly after that you will get sub-20.

Why should i not learn them with pure muscle memory, that way it takes me very little time. I cant imagine learning them anyother way. How should i learn them.

Why should i not learn them with pure muscle memory

Because 2-handed muscle memory obviously doesn't help you with one-handed solves much

Look at the alg in terms of smaller triggers. Look at how pieces are moving around; look at recognizable patterns or something. Anything that can help you do the alg without muscle memory.

I don't think there's anything wrong with learning pure muscle memory. Just learn with muscle memory with one hand. That's what I did. So you basically have to relearn all the algs now.

If, when doing 2-handed, you don't learn them with completely pure muscle memory to begin with (there is nothing wrong with partially using muscle memory ofc), you avoid having to completely relearn every single alg you know in order to use them one-handed.

sub40 in a few days
sub30 in a few weeks
sub20 is really hard. depends on how much you practice.
for cross remember you dont only have R and U but also r and u. so you can avoid some rotations easily by using those.
example: solve cross on D and do B2. in this case i do r' U2 r rather than y R2. but those are some relly advanced tricks. i would say you get a feeling for good crosses over the time.

also maybe watch some walkthrough solves. (not that up to date but i was like ~17 when i made those)

I use ZZ for OH but my progression is almost exactly the same as whauk's for the above mentioned barriers

My turning was pretty quick before I was sub20 so getting past that was about understanding my method and making things more efficient. I'd say to get sub20 you need a nice mix of knowing what you're doing and turning speed. Do not neglect your technique.

I learn things by pure muscle memory too. Just had to relearn everything for OH. It's tedious but that's what you have to do when everything is muscle memory. Maybe you can start learning 2h algs by tracking pairs or recognizing patterns (or whatever others do) from now on?

This is a common way people turn:

Another way is demonstrated in whauk's video. I think it's absolutely important to develop your turning technique before you try to go as fast as you can.

That is what I did. To re-learn them, I would perform the algs OH, but with my other hand guiding it.

Pinky finger for R' turns ftw.

I actually use my index
