Old DIY spinning awful

I have a white type A diy from puzzleproz. I thought it spun pretty good, and it cuts corners really well. Then I bought another diy for a friend (he payed for it, but didn't have an ebay account). It spins insanely fast in comparison. I think the old DIY might have too much silicone built up? The biggest difference is that I sanded all contact surfaces on the old one, and I only sanded down the imperfections on the new one. Plus it has only been lubed once. Is there any way I can get my old one spinning like new again? I seem to remember it spun really bad before lubing, even worse than the new one did. I thought all colors were the same though, since both are type As from puzzleproz, but the new one is orange. Help me out? Otherwise I might have to buy myself a brand new green DIY lol.

one other thing - my old DIY has this dark grime that has built up around the screw and inside the center pieces. What is it? I think it has gunked up the core. How can I clean it out?

clean out the cube (with soap and an ear cleaner if can't reach the hard to reach places) and use a light spray of silicon. try cleaning the center pieces where the screw is. The grime might be slowing it down.

edit - FSM=flying spaghetti monster?

Is it generally recommended to sand the flat surfaces of the cubies, or just the parts that lock them together?

We have both been touched by the noodley appendage then. RAmen.

And for all the non-believers out there...may you be blessed by the noodley appendage as well. RAmen!!!

And if you have advice for me, post that too. I cleaned the core and the center pieces. It doesn't seem to spin any better...I put more silicone in earlier too. It still doesn't spin nearly as good. I will probably just get another one next week when one of my fellow Holy Pirates of the Flying Spaghetti Monster orders a DIY.

How can I remove old silicone? I think it has built up which makes it spin worse.

I cleaned it, sanded it, and resiliconed it. It spins reasonably well, not as good as the new orange one. The orange one spins ridiculously fast, I'm gonna make a vid of it.

@FSM, I used to wash my cubies in a basin of warm water with drops of dish washing liquid. But now I just take the cubies out and wipe the surfaces down hard using paper towels. Sometimes I dampen the paper towel to grab the grundge easier. Then I put it back together and give it just a little silicone. For best results I avoid the PuzzleProz cube lube (which I am told is actually furniture polish wax) and use CRC Heavy Duty Pure Silicone Spray, taking care not to let any of it touch the stickers/tiles.

My white, green, orange PuzzleProz cubes feel like softer plastic and seem to work better than my PuzzleProz black cubes.
