Noobs at competitions?

Do they just want to have fun?

Yes and so do I and I am currently ranked pretty nice on the 3x3x3. If it wasn't for the fun then I wouldn't compete.

Exactly. Of course I want to break some personal or national records in a competition, but I started speedcubing because it's fun and this hasn't changed yet.
I don't consider speedcubing as a strict sport where only being the best counts.
As you can see, every speedcuber not only in this forum shares his techniques and algorithms. If it was just for competing, they wouldn't do this because they want to stay better than you.

Yeah absolutely, it's a bit of fun. Of course there is competition, but we'll happily share tips and techniques. Now I think about it, that's pretty nice.

Do you have a problem with competitors who have times over a minute? Is it your opinion that only the 10 or so fastest cubers should participate in competitions? After all, when pitted against the people who average sub-14, nobody else stands a chance of winning, so why bother?

I don't like your attitude toward the person whose best time is 6 minutes. That's already faster than a lot of people in the world. There was a point in your life when you couldn't solve the cube in an hour. Everyone has to start somewhere.

I'm going to my first competition in May (the San Diego 'Open'), and I know that I'm going to EASILY be in the bottom 25%, but I don't care. I want to go and learn what I can from people that are better than me.

I have a friend who encouraged me to sign up (cubetimer... I love the goat with braces LOL). I'm getting better, but even if I'm the worst solver at the competiton... I still got to hang out with my friends.

That wasn't supposed to be offensive .

I was just wondering :)
So now I found the true sense of the speedcubing and that was actually already what I had thought before.
I didn't know that this topic would cause so much turmoil

I am slow, why am I posting so much on this forum?

You are very slow

thus, you shud be denied from comps.

but to be real...."noobs" or begginners become to talk to the "pros" adavanced cubers to get help etc.

My last comp was the french open. Edouard, Thibaut, Benjamin sintes, Ron...
were there. And no one else had any chance to win. But who cares. Do you think we have spend our time wiathing them ? Of course not.

Don't Forget that Rubik's is a TOY.

I'm slow: 25-30 average. I went with the goal of learning more and getting advice, but ended up just having fun. :). It's not like I was going to think that I would beat Jason Baum, Harris Chan, Michael Gottlieb, Mitchell Stern. I did buy a nice cube and got to feel how a fast cube should really feel like! however, for pyraminx, I would like to get a sub-13 average or be in the top 3 at the competition at least once, eventually...
