Hi everyone, I am very new to this site, and i would say pretty new at speed cubing as well.
I use the the Dayan Guhong as my main if that matters and love the cube
The thing is i have noticed that my cross and f2l are seriously lacking in speed, it usually takes me an average of 28 seconds to do the the first to layers and then around 6 seconds to finish off the last layer, i am using an intuitive method of the fridrich method for f2l and solving my cross on the bottom
Is there anything you fine folks can give me tips or help to get faster with my cross and f2l?
If you can that would be awesome,
Thanks,
Gumpsy:D

I suggest you record a video of a few solves. With cross, optimisation is key, and with F2L, look-ahead and know-ahead will increase your speed.

Try looking at the Wiki page for F2l,OLL, and PLL.

Well, since you are just starting off, I would learn a few things earlier in time because you will get way faster practicing them now and being top speed later on. Since you are using Fridrich, learn the PLLs and OLLs in that order, and it will boost up your times alot! After that, learn the COLLs because it will make PLL much faster. Algorithms found here and I am not trying to confuse you but, go to that website and you will find the OLL PLL and COLL algorithms there. And there you will also find advanced things for F2L. This website helped me out and I hope it helps you out too! :-)

I really like Burtons website I have his iOS app but the layout is funky.

I just have one question, u said learn the PLL's before the OLL's? how do i do that? because i thought the OLL was orienting the layer to perform a PLL
Thanks for the feedback everyone it is GREATLY appreciated

Thats right.
Oll is flipping any of the 4 corners/4 edges so that the top is one solid color
PLL is positioning the edges/cornners so that there in the correct spot.

You are right. You most likely know 4LLL. 2-step OLL and 2-step PLL. most people suggest learning all 21 PLLs before all 57 OLLs.

Oh ya I forgot to say that, if you go to that website and see 4lll, click that and then click Orientation of Last Layer. Then this page will be called "2 look oll" learn those algorithms and in the beginners method, you put in the cross and then put in the corners, well just use the same thing to get the cross and use those algorithms to solve the layer. It does not matter if you perform OLL before PLL because after OLL is done you get your PLL case. OLL is just orienting the last layer not permuting it.

I don't think he needs any LL help. He already does it in 6 seconds. Normal ratio is about 2:1 for F2L (including cross) to LL. With 6 seconds LL, he should be about 12 seconds F2L. Like someone said, a video would help for more specific pointers. If you're turning fast and pausing a lot, slow down. But anyway, if you're new, practice should do it for awhile. Could be that you need better recognition for F2L cases.

He's not as good as Feliks. And doesn't need to be. Right now, his cross and f2l are lacking. It doesn't matter if he has a 1 second ll. With a 28 second f2l he's not going to be very good

Thanks sneaklyfox i really do think i just need to slow down in f2l and try to recognize the cases better, and try to look ahead
