I don't at all like the darker green shades most cube companies have been going with in recent years, it really messes with recognition and lookahead for me...

so I am looking for a kind of paint that works well with cube plastic and especially some good shades of lighter brighter green to help me with this

Ultimately I would like to make the green side of mosta my cubes the same shade as used in the VALK series of cubes

I have tried KRYLON Fusion For Plastics (spray paint) and it works well but I have yet to find a shade of green anything like what I want, and while it says it is GLOSSY paint it still comes out a bit flat (almost matte) looking...

Appreciate any good pointers and advice here, thanks

If you paint it your cube becomes WCA illegal. If you cube is stickered try these:

Thanks for the input, I pretty much only do stickerless cubes

Not looking to paint a VALK, I already love the shades Qiyi used to use, but the reeeeal dark green on the XMan Tomato v3 (and other cubes) is super annoying when I get things in the wrong place and ruin solves bcoz of the dark green...

Also, pretty much all the new DianSheng big cubes use a really dark green and that's even darker than on the Tomato v3 and makes it even worse bcoz there's so many more little pieces moving around ...

I really don't care about if it's illegal for competitions, dont think they hold any in Tennessee anyway ha ¯\(°_o)/¯

I just dont want the dark green shades kn my cubes holding me back or messing me up in recognition and lookahead...

Example: my 6×6 PB is on the new Aoshi WRM, but I get just as fast (or faster) times on my Shadow v2 bcoz it has the same shades as the Valk cubes (dont know WHY Qiyi changed with the Tomato series...) and therefore the nice bright neon key lime kinda green shade, so that shade is hard to mistake for the nice dark blue...
Even tho the Aoshi WRM is a much better cube... just bcoz of that dang dark green.

Please just briefly read through your posts before sending them. Typos aren’t a big deal but holy that’s a lot of typos

Don’t paint your cubes. Unless you really understand cubes and modding and the implications and how to go about it. Even then I still recommend don’t paint your cubes. Your only solution is to either switch to stickered and get custom shades or to find cubes that have a coloring you like. I don’t know of any mass produced cubes where you can customize plastic color that much.

The reason you get the same times on both 6x6s is because they’re similar quality, not the shades. The shadow works just as well as the aoshi for most beginner to intermediate solvers

I actually think painting or dyeing cubes has become viable now that people are experimenting with DIY UV coatings. You could theoretically paint/dye the cube, then UV coat ALL the sides so that way you have a uniform surface across all sides. It would be visually the same as if the underlying plastic was originally that color and would prevent friction from handling the cube from eventually rubbing the coloration away. It's something I plan to experiment with in the future to have a cube with a gray side.

I'm a 55yo Army vet who's had a few strokes and a seizure in the past few years that also gave me cataracts in the lenses of both of my eyes (just as I was getting to be sub-25, dangit)

Apologies if I leave a little bit of mess now&then, I do try to proofread things before I send, and edit when I see something went awry in something I posted, but my only internet is this smartphone, and not only does Gboard kinda suck, I literally have to hold the phone about 5 inches from my face to read and type ... and typing is harder since I have to look down at the keyboard and up at the text entry box and back&forth like...
Example: this note took about 7+ minutes out of my day

and Yeah, Ima paint my cubes to make them better for me

note: I did my Meilong 8 & 9 ayyeady to make the yellow side less pale and awful, and a DianSheng S6M & S7M and those all turned out fine as far as the painting jib itself goes, the KRYLON Fusion For Plastics I mentioned in the OP does work well on the cubes, but the green shade was only half-decent... thus this thread

Just put stickers on. That's the easiest way to get your own colours and that's what I do. I don't do competitions.

Dyeing should be the best solution if you don't mind a lot of work, and it's smelling messy work. I did not try it. There should be many YouTube video about dyeing. Here's one that should work. Be careful. Dyes will stain and stain whatever that comes in contact with it. ☝️
