NASA Finds new life form...

They found one, I think..
It would have taken forever to 'evolve' one, no?

"When researchers removed the phosphorus and replaced it with arsenic the microbes continued to grow. Subsequent analyses indicated that the arsenic was being used to produce the building blocks of new GFAJ-1 cells. "

Simply removing it shouldn't 'evolved' the microbes, me thinks.

I'm not exactly sure what the details are here - did they *find* an arsenic-using life form in the wild, or did they *evolve* one?
If you want a better article than "LOL NASA FOUND ALIENS IN A LAKE" I suggest Ed Yong's Not Exactly Rocket Science and PZ Meyer's Pharyngula. Both are awesome science blogs.

It's extremely annoying when I hear, "NASA has discovered alien life forms in California!" or, "NASA announces the discovery of alien microbes." And it's also annoying when people say they are arsenic-based life forms.
