I have invented my own method (i think, havent found it anywhere else at least) where you only have to remember 5 algs, the steps are:
1: cross
2: insert edges, dont mind the corners
3: fix cross on top
4: use T or J perm to fix cross on all sides (2 algs total)
5: use corner cycle to set the corners where they belong (2 more algs = 4 algs total
6: use R' D' R D repeatingly to orient corner after corner (with a U/U' inbetween when a corner gets oriented. (another alg, 5 algs total))
7: Solved!

the method is pretty inefficient, but my PB with it is 1:23,68 (and I'm pretty slow still)
Upside is you get faster at corner cycle (which you will get anyway) and you will maybe improve your ability to spot pieces.
Maybe is a good beginners method?
please give comments on this, and if it already exists, im sorry, didnt find on forum search or google, so i thought it didnt exist

thats after cross is fixed on top, but sometimes two edges need to change place to make cross on all sides, thats where T and J perm jumps in

[wiki]Edges First[/wiki]

I see that this wiki entry mentions Edges First as a possible FMC method. Does anyone actually use this? Would this be an ok "entry level" FMC method? I really haven't gotten serious about FMC at all, and just use CFOP with some trial and error. I might be interested in trying this for a few solves since there isn't anything new to learn.

Fredlund used to use it; make a skeleton with all edges solved and then make a bunch of insertions to solve the corners. Because of all the insertions it's a lot work and not too suited for beginners. F2L-LL with some flexibility (e.g: block-F2L ELL with an OLL and then a 3-corner cycle) can be quite efficient.

Try placing those pieces intuitively, without any algorithms. You may also be interested in reading up on commutators, if you were to employ those, you could finish your method with no algs at all.

EDIT:
