My Black Cube Dilemma

Hi everyone,

I didn't know where to post this, I thought this was the most pertinent place to post it, I apologize if it's actually not relevant to this forum.

But anyway, you know how people sometimes take pieces from a black/blank cube and put them onto their color cube so they can practice things like F2L, OLL, PLL, Petrus blocks, Roux blocks, etc., without getting distracted by the other colors?

So I have a cube that I don't use that much, it's an original from the 80s. The stickers are still in okay condition, and it's priceless (since it's original, obviously)

But, I don't have a black cube right now to apply to my good cube for practicing that kind of stuff.

So, if I turn the original cube into my black cube to put the extra pieces on my good one for practicing and whatnot, that will have lost its originality and pricelessness. (making up words ftw)

But if I don't turn that cube into my black cube, then I won't be able to practice things like F2L.

So, which one should I do? No black cube, or black cube? There's pros and cons to each one, I just wanted to ask you guys before I do something stupid. I do trust my judgment, but I wanna know if everyone else craves an original cube from the 80s, or if they just don't care about it and turn it into something else.

I apologize if this thing was too verbose (well, it kind of was anyway) and sounded too serious, it's supposed to be casual, ha ha.

Anyway, thanks for all your input!!

IMO having blanks isn't going to help you much. You should just try practicing with with all the stickers since that's how you'll solve anyway. You don't really need blank pieces to practice.

Are you talking about removing the stickers from say, the last layer in order to make learning F2L easier? If I'm understanding correctly, I wouldn't really recommend it. When it comes down to it, in actual solves, those other colors WILL be there to distract you. Learning with them there is better than getting used to them without.

I used a corner with black corner cubies, white everything else because I thought maybe it would help me make my F2L. It didn't change much and it made solving on any other cube weird.

Okay, thanks everyone, I'll just keep everything the same for now, then.

and StefanPochmann: I meant that I wouldn't be able to practice it efficiently, rather...harder recognition and whatnot for setting up the cases, etc.

But yes. Thanks again!

Just some added input on this. I find it rather unusual that you would be willing to affect an original '80's cube for this endeavour. Is there anything in particular stopping you from just... buying another Rubik's cube? Online they're like... 10 bucks (plus shipping), and in stores (around here at least) they're all of $15. I'd far rather save up a bit and sacrifice the $15 than the possibly priceless original cube.
